STORY OF A... REGULAR SEASON

Dunfermline's 2008/2009 regular season may have not been as enthusing as last term, when the Pars were crowned Division C Group B champions, but under the circumstances the lads didn't fare too badly at all, claiming a 4th place which will see them enter the Promotion Playoffs, in a group that also include A Selesiun and Real Chupito.
Let's have a look back at Dunfermline's season so far

DUNFERMLINE - MOJITO FC 3-3 (DAFC through on penalties *)
Marletta, Buccianti, Gallo
Dunfermline through to the next round after a late comeback from 3-1 down.

DUNFERMLINE - URUK HAI 1-2
Gallo
The league curtain raiser brings no points as a poor performance is punished by the visitors.

REAL SAMPIE - DUNFERMLINE 2-2
Gallo 2
First point in the league, as Gallo grabs a vital brace.

REAL BONARDA - DUNFERMLINE 1-5
Maneschi 2, Cantelli, Lenza, Gallo
Cantelli makes an unexpected return to lift Pars' spirits and they collect the first win of the season.

DUNFERMLINE - COMPAGNIA DELLE INDIE 6-6 (CDI through on penalties *)
Maneschi, Marletta 3, Buccianti 2
Marletta scores 3 and Buccianti 2, but penalties misses prove costly as the Pars crash out of the cup.

A SELESIUN - DUNFERMLINE 0-2
Maneschi, Ganduglia
Semino produces heroics to deny the home side and keep a clean sheet.

DUNFERMLINE - MORANEGO 2-3
Maneschi, Frassinelli
Frassinelli's stunner only proves consolation in a tense and tight game.

ANNI SETTANTA - DUNFERMLINE 6-3
Marletta, Crosetti, Maneschi
Pars thrashed after taking early lead in one of the worst performances of the season.

DUNFERMLINE - WLF GENOVA 3-5
Frassinelli, Maneschi, Lenza
Dunfermline punished again despite taking the lead three times for their third defeat in a row.

ZENA CAPUT MUNDI - DUNFERMLINE 2-4
Buccianti 3, Marletta
Buccianti steals the scene in a game marred by a nonsense brawl.

DUNFERMLINE - GRANAROLO ARCI 3-0
Boccaccio 3
Boccaccio makes his Pars debut and immediately produces a decisive hat-trick.

MASSACRONI - DUNFERMLINE 3-4
Boccaccio 2, Cantelli, Marletta
A late screamer from Marletta steals full points for the Pars, finally back on track.

DUNFERMLINE - SANTORRE 8-3
Boccaccio 3, Marletta 3, Cantelli 2
The Pars' revival goes on with the thumping of the bottom side.

URUK HAI - DUNFERMLINE 3-9
Cantelli 2, Filippi, Boccaccio 2, Buccianti, Marletta 2, Bovalino
Dunfermline make it 5 in a row and demolish their opponents to collect an early whistle close of the game.

DUNFERMLINE - REAL SAMPIE 6-3
Cantelli 3, Buccianti 3
Dunfermline reach a sixth consecutive win to move closer to the top of the table.

DUNFERMLINE - REAL BONARDA 3-3
Frassinelli, Boccaccio, Marletta
Yet another brawl triggered by the opponents ruins a hard fought game.

DUNFERMLINE - A SELESIUN 7-6
Cantelli2 , Boccaccio 3, Buccianti 2
Buccianti seals the win with a last gasp free-kick to get the Pars back to winning ways.

MORANEGO - DUNFERMLINE 2-3
Buccianti, Cantelli, Frassinelli
It's yet another last-kick-of-the-game win, Frassi the hero on the occasion, with Dunfermline moving to within one point of the top two.

DUNFERMLINE - ANNI SETTANTA 1-2
Own goal
Dunfermline spoil it all by slumping to an unexpected defeat which deflates their top-two ambitions.

WLF GENOVA - DUNFERMLINE 4-4
Marletta, Bovalino, Cantelli, Filippi
The Pars drop further costly points after coming back from 3-1 down but then conceding a sloppy equaliser after taking the lead at 4-3.

DUNFERMLINE - ZENA CAPUT MUNDI 6-5
Boccaccio 2, Cantelli, Marletta, Bovalino 2
6-1 up with minutes remaining, Dunfermline almost squander this win through poor defending.

GRANAROLO ARCI - DUNFERMLINE 4-3
Maneschi, Bovalino, Cantelli
Dunfermline waste their penultimate chance to access the top-two in a shockingly poor overall performance, despite taking an early lead.

DUNFERMLINE - MASSACRONI 1-2
Cantelli
The Pars see off any hope of making the top-two and settle for a less glorious 4th place in the league table.

SANTORRE - DUNFERMLINE 0-8
Frassinelli, Buccianti 3, Bovalino 2, Marletta 2
Not much to report on a game that never developed into a contest.

ANALYSIS - Santorre

FABIO BOCCACCIO showed great reliability as he was asked to feature between the sticks, and he conceded no goals...

DAVIDE FILIPPI mostly stayed put in defence, allowing his teammates to go forward and score.

FABIO FRASSINELLI beautifully headed home to open the scoring, then he had another host of chances he couldn't convert.

FAUSTO CROSETTI did well and tried to go forward.

MATTEO BOVALINO scored two goals to finally certify he's out of his dipping form moment.

ALDO MARLETTA scored an easy brace in a match that was never a contest.

MARCO CANTELLI was given the armband, which he honoured with a wise performance.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI got his goalscoring habits back on track with a hat-trick.

SANTORRE - DUNFERMLINE 0-8

Not much to comment on the final regular season tie for the Pars, who easily bagged 3 points and were confirmed as the 4th force in their group.
Not much but for referee Mendelevich, whose actions and decisions made a bad game worse, as he opted to send off a couple of home players either side of the interval despite Dunfermline's players dissenting, asking him to do otherwise to try and keep the game at least half-alive (!).
The Pars took the lead through Frassinelli, who headed home from a neat corner kick delivery by Bovalino, who turned scorer soon after following a Marletta through ball, after Buccianti had also hit the back of the net, picking up a loose ball to beat Santorre's keeper.
The keeper himself was then sent off for lunging at Frassinelli who was running goalwards unmarked. Dunfermline had it even easier from then on and the first half ended 3-0.

HALF TIME: Santorre 0, Dunfermline 3

Proceedings were resumed and Dunfermline tried to hit the throttle pedal, and they added to the scoreline with goals coming from Bovalino and Marletta, before Buccianti made it 6 from close range.
A Santorre midfielder was then dismissed for blatantly insulting the ref, then Bovalino tried to stun the opponents with a beautifully crafted overhead kick, which only hit the post, though.
Marletta scored with his left to make it 7-0, before Buccianti completed the scoreline capping a counter attack with a neat finish.
Boccaccio, deployed in goal owing to the simultaneous absences of Semino and Perugini, made a plastic save before Mendelevich blew the final whistle.

PREVIEW - Santorre

Dunfermline find themselves in a rather uncomfortable position ahead of Sunday's tie against bottom side Santorre.
They game may yet be called off, as Santorre failed to turn up for their latest league fixture, which cost them a one point deduction as that had been the second time they had left their opponents without a game this season.
Whether or not the game actually takes place, the Pars will only play for their own record, as any result will not move from the 4th place they currently occupy and which will see them enter the Promotion Playoffs phase.
Turmoil is once again predominant in Dunfermline's dressing room, with a certain degree of uncertainty surrounding the managerial competences and the players' actual desire of making yet another jump towards AICS top flight, but the lads need to regroup and head towards their best form ahead of the games which will decide their future next month.
The season's been marred by a number of altercations and arguments among players, which has resulted in the whole package being rather unsettled, as much in its shaping on the pitch as off it.
For the final game of the season, the following players should be available:

(46 Perugini)

17 Crosetti
8 Filippi
10 Frassinelli

2 Boccaccio
11 Bovalino
6 Cantelli
20 Maneschi
5 Marletta

9 Buccianti

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS: The only time these two have locked horns before, earlier this season, Dunfermline thumped their opponents by 8 goals to 3, with Boccaccio and Marletta both scoring hat-tricks and the scoreline completed by a Cantelli brace.
On that occasion, Perugini also saved a penalty-spot to add to Santorre's woes.

ANALYSIS - Massacroni

MARCO SEMINO produced at least two miracle saves but couldn't do anything to prevent the actual goals from going in.

DAVIDE FILIPPI is approaching his best form, and did his best to control his opponents.

FABIO FRASSINELLI showed once more he has the potential to be the best defender in the league.

MARCO CANTELLI found chances and balls hard to come by, although he did have his say in the equalising goal.

ALDO MARLETTA didn't play well enough by his standard, even though he went close to scoring on at least a couple of occasions.

MATTEO BOVALINO is definitely back to his best, although his form's not always matched by that of his teammates.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI illustrated how he can be dangerous to his opponents. Was withdrawn midway through the second half.

FABIO BOCCACCIO has a huge potential, but he was given a very hard task as he was introduced towards the end of the game.

DUNFERMLINE - MASSACRONI 1-2

Dunfermline saw their top two ambitions finally ended at the hands of 2nd placed Massacroni, following a beautifully hard fought game which left the Pars with no points, staring at the fourth place they're going to enter the finals with.
Perugini fielded an old-guard initial VII, with Semino in goal, Frassinelli and Filippi in defence, Marletta in the middle of the park, flanked by Cantelli and Bovalino, with Buccianti completing the lineup upfront.
The game got underway and Dunfermline looked a wee stuttering in the early exchanges, Massacroni counting on the inspired pair of Grieco and Pedroni to wreak havoc throughout.
And an excellent overhead kick by the former was the perfect breakthrough for the visitors, although Dunfermline were sort of sloppy in the man-marking on the occasion.
The hosts sent their charges forward and Filippi took a fantastic shot which only shaved the post, though.
Cantelli had a chance of his own before Buccianti was quick to control the ball with his chest and, on the turn, forced a save from Massacroni's keeper.
The ensuing corner was taken by Cantelli and the ball met a number of legs before finding its way into the back of the net to gift Dunfermline a much needed equaliser.
Cantelli then released Marletta, whose shot was parried by the keeper, only for the ball to fall kindly to the captain again, but his half-volley slowly went goalwards, hitting the post with Buccianti unable to make the most of the rebound.

HALF TIME: Dunfermline 1, Massacroni 1

Proceedings were resumed and Dunfermline tried to give the game a crack, well knowing nothing but victory would've kept them in the frame to make the top-two in the group table.
However, Pedroni proved too hot to handle, as he received the ball from a corner kick and, immediately after adjusting the ball for his volley, he unleashed an unsavable shot to make it 2-1.
Boccaccio was introduced for Buccianti, but the move didn't produce many results, Dunfermline trying their best to get an equaliser, which they almost did as Cantelli played a marvellous ball into the path of Marletta, whose curled effort was kept out by the opposition's keeper.
Frassinelli had a header saved late on, but the final onslaught didn't produce the much-coveted and perhaps deserved draw.
Dunfermline will therefore finish the regular season in fourth place.

ANNI SETTANTA AWARDED WIN OVER WLF

Anni Settanta, previously level on points with Dunfermline, have been handed a further 3 points in the league table, after WLF Genova had been punished for fielding Andrea Medica, who turned out to be ineligible as signed to a FIGC football club with no permission to feature in the realm of AICS football.
As a consequence, and at a rather critical stage of the regular season, Anni Settanta have been moved up to 3rd in Division B Group B.

As a result of such AICS ruling, the provisional league table of Division B Group B now looks as follows:

43 Moranego
40 Massacroni

39 Anni Settanta
36 Dunfermline
30 Uruk Hai
27 WLF Genova
26 A Selesiun

1.4.09

PREVIEW - Massacroni

Calculations and projections about Dunfermline making the top-two in their league group may be dominant in the dressing room, but all such musings will be meaningless unless the Pars collect a full six-points from their remaining two regular season fixtures.
Should they manage to do so, they will still need Anni Settanta and Massacroni to draw their tie a week on Sunday, but winning against Massacroni next weekend could well prove enough to finish third and therefore be better poised when the playoffs begin.

Marco Semino hasn't officially ruled himself out just yet, although Leonardo Perugini is expected to deploy himself in goal.
All three defenders are fit for selection, hence Fabio Frassinelli, Davide Filippi and Fausto Crosetti will fight for two starting berths, with Aldo Marletta back from suspension in midfield and therefore available for selection alongside Matteo Bovalino, Fabio Boccaccio, Marco Cantelli and Mattia Maneschi.
Alberto Buccianti, too, is fully in the frame and will be most likely handed a starting role upfront.
On the other hand, Massacroni will surely be without Pepa, Luongo and Mazza, following the huge brawl which caused their game against Zena Caput Mundi to be forfeited, with both teams being awarded a defeat for such a mishap.
The scenario could be even bleaker if AICS (the local FA) should decide to take action regarding further players, something which will be ascertained either today or tomorrow.

Dunfermline and Massacroni have met twice before, and both matches are in amongst the ones to remember for both sides' history.
Last season, they met at a crucial stage of the Division C Excellence Playoffs and, with Dunfermline reduced to only 7 players including Semino pitched as an outfield defender, Marletta gave them a two goal cushion with as many free-kicks, although the latter was wrongly awarded to Buccianti. Massacroni fought back and equalised midway through the second half, before producing an onslaught that, though, went to no avail, the final scoreline reading 2-2.
That draw entitled both clubs to gain their entrance into the quarter-finals, and both sides ended up being promoted to the second tier of AICS football.
The two teams met again earlier this season, and Dunfermline overturned a two-goal deficit before completing their comeback with Marletta scoring the winner with virtually the last kick of the game, adding to a Boccaccio brace and a Cantelli screamer.
