FRIENDLY - Dunfermline v Carrapippi

GENOVA - Dunfermline will continue their pre-season preparation with a friendly tie against Division C outfit Carrapippi, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 30th September, kick-off 10 pm.
The teams were close to meeting one another a couple of seasons back, but Carrapippi lost a penalty shoot-out to Amici di Berto at the Division C roound of 16 stage, with the Arenzano-based outfit progressing to the quarter finals, where they were beaten by the Pars in the club's history biggest game to date, the one that marked the Fifers' access to the Division B and broke Berto's hearts, although Berto did make amends a year later, and they will actually feature in the second tier of AICS football this forthcoming season.

However, the game on Wednesday will be a good occasion for Dunfermline to step up their form and fitness, considering the Liguria Cup tie against Rivar Plate is fast approaching.
Semino should be back between the sticks, after Perugini was given the shirt in the past two games, and all defenders look set to feature. Merello, Filippi, Frassinelli and Crosetti will therefore fight it out for two starting berths.
Marletta, Bovalino and Cantelli will all be at the gaffer's disposal, while Finotti's presence isn't a certainty just yet, mainly owing to back spasms who have affected his performance and fitness against Dinamo Brasca.
Hopefully, he'll get his minor injury concerns duly sorted out sooner rather than later, as his has been a valuable presence on the pitch whenever called upon.
Ducco hasn't yet confirmed his presence for the tie either.
Rossi, unless busy on working duties, should also feature, whereas the big news could be represented by the possible return to the fold of striker Buccianti, who has so far been unavailable and hasn't played a minute in a red shirt this term.

FRIENDLY - Dunfermline 4, Dinamo Brasca 7

SAN DESIDERIO - Dunfermline plunged to their first pre-season defeat at the hands of Zonale outfit Dinamo Brasca last night, as they were beaten by seven goals to four in what was surely their poorest outing so far this term.
The Pars have since last season developed a worrying tendency for shooting themselves in the foot, but last night's encounter was only a friendly game and the first half was good after all.
Gaffer Vanin missed out through illness, so did Filippi, while Buccianti and Ducco haven't been seen in a red shirt yet this term.
Semino was dispensed from taking part in the game, therefore Perugini was in goal, with Merello and Frassinelli starting in defence and Crosetti providing cover.
The midfield trio of Marletta, Bovalino and Cantelli could count on Finotti's back-up, while Rossi started upfront.
The initial exchanges were promising indeed, and although Marletta was caught in possession twice early on, the Pars appeared the better side, even more so when Finotti opened the scoring capping a fine counter-attacking move, started by Marletta, developed by Rossi and beautifully finished by the Turin-born winger, whose low drive left Brasca keeper with no chance.
Soon afterwards, Rossi doubled his team's lead, as Cantelli fed him a peach of a through ball, leaving the striker with the relatively easy task of sidefooting the ball into the net.
A penalty kick to Brasca followed, and the visitors reduced their arrears from the spot, before equalising and even taking the lead through two long range efforts, Dunfermline defending poorly on both occasions.
Marletta made it 3-3 with a deflected effort from a free-kick, and the first half was over shortly afterwards.

HALF TIME: Dunfermline 3, Dinamo Brasca 3

Proceedings were resumed, and Brasca took the lead once again as Perugini failed to place his wall correctly and sloppily let Brasca's free-kick slide home.
Then Dunfermline did produce their final piece of brilliance on the night, as Cantelli and Rossi concocted to assist Merello from a quickly taken free-kick, before the defender could sidefoot into an empty net.
Then on, Dunfermline's cohesion on the pitch was virtually non-existent: Finotti limped off with a recurrence of his thigh injury, Cantelli was ever-present but to no avail, and the rest of the team stopped playing as a unit.
Brasca netted three more times before the game came to a close and, although it's not panicking time yet, Dunfermline will have to take this defeat as a punch on the chin and just get spurred on in order to deliver better performances in the near future, as the cup tie against Rivar Plate is only 18 days away.

LIGURIA CUP DRAW - Dunfermline v Rivar Plate

GENOVA - Dunfermline will take part in the Liguria Cup for the third time running, with the Pars yet to collect a single win from their previous participations.
In 2007/2008, Dunfermline crashed out at the hands of Virtusestri at the first round, as they were comprehensively beaten by 8 goals to 3, but that was before the massive turnaround that followed and took a re-shaped Pars side to promotion to the second tier of AICS football.
Last season, though, Dunfermline made it to the second round, as they recovered from 3-1 down to equalise and got past Mojito FC on penalties.
Win some lose some, they say, so the Pars weren't as lucky at the second round stage when, even though they did pull off their greatest comeback to date, from 0-4 down to 6-6, they were eventually eliminated on penalties by Compagnia delle Indie.

07/08: Virtusestri - Dunfermline 8-3 (Bovalino, Buccianti, Frassinelli)
08/09: Dunfermline (*) - Mojito FC 3-3 (Marletta, Buccianti, Gallo)
08/09: Compagnia Delle Indie (*) - Dunfermline 6-6 (Maneschi, Marletta 3, Buccianti 2)

(*) through on penalties
______________________________________________________

This season, it's going to be an emotional fixture for a few Pars.
Dunfermline, in fact, have been drawn to play against Division C outfit Rivar Plate, a team featuring Luca Devescovi, who plays guitar in the newly established folk/rock band "Birth Of A Doll", whose other members are no less than Filippo Finotti (lead vocals, guitar) and Aldo Marletta (rhythm guitar, bass, backing vocals).
Moreover, Devescovi is a childhood friend of a good number of players within the Pars' ranks, including Marco Cantelli and Fabio Frassinelli, most notably.

It shall be nice to see how the bandmates (opponents on the night) will fare, in a game scheduled to take place on October 11th, although no venue has been decided for the even just yet.
The two sides have never met prior to the forthcoming encounter.

FRIENDLY - Dunfermline v Dinamo Brasca

GENOVA - After a good performance in the friendly tie against Gymnasia San Martino last night, Dunfermline have already set their sights towards their next playing commitment, which shall take place on Monday 21st September.
The Pars will take on highly-rated Zonale high-flyers Dinamo Brasca, a side capable of finishing 6th in the overall league pecking order last term.
Dunfermline should be able to be nearly at full-strength, with a plethora of options in all departments.
Semino and Perugini should both be available, and the defenders' quartet could be counted in their numbers, with Crosetti, Frassinelli, Filippi and Merello all up for selection.
Cantelli and Finotti should also re-join the group, thus providing Vanin with more options in midfield, on top of Marletta and Bovalino, whereas Ducco is yet to confirm his presence.
With Buccianti still away in Tuscany, Rossi appears the natural choice to start upfront, whilst he could also swap places with Cantelli during the course of the game.

FRIENDLY - Dunfermline 5, Gymnasia 3

SAN DESIDERIO - Dunfermline continued on their positive start to their pre-season, as they eased past Division C outfit Gymnasia San Martino by 5 goals to 3.
After the initial two friendly ties had seen open floodgates at both ends, with scorelines of 9-6 against Metropolitan Style and 11-10 against Rapid Sanchez, this was more like a real game of football, with a lot of tussles and tangles in the middle of the park, but unfortunately also featuring a number of high (too high) flying tackles on the part of a couple of Gymnasia players.

With a number of notable absentees (Semino, Frassinelli, Crosetti, Cantelli, Ducco, Finotti, Buccianti all missed out on the game), gaffer Vanin was forced to deploy himself as a defender, alongside Filippi, while Perugini made his season debut in goal and Rossi finally shrugged off his ankle injury and started upfront.
The midfield trio was then composed by Marletta in the middle of the park, Merello and Bovalino on the left and right flank respectively.

Marletta broke his goal drought with a powerful long range effort the goalkeeper could, and perhaps should, have dealt with better, but there was very little the keeper could do when the captain's second came, with an equally powerful, but even better crafted belter from distance, to make it 2-0.
Cicala pulled one back for the visitors, following a nice collective move, before Nicora even managed to equalise just before the break, with a powerful effort Perugini parried, but unfortunately into his own net's top corner.
During the course of the second half, Dunfermline did keep on playing some lovely football, knocking the ball about well enough to cause the opponents a few headaches.
Marletta made it 3-2 with another thunderbolt from range, then it was Rossi's turn to get off the mark, with a stubborn individual goal and an accurate right-footed finish from just outside the box.
Alberti pulled one back for Gymnasia, but it wasn't long before Filippi produced the goal of the night, chipping his marker before dispatching a lovely dipping shot into the top corner.

Just a couple of lines to highlight how a few Gymnasia players tried to develop the FRIENDLY game into something else.
While Alberti's behaviour on the pitch was absolutely fantastic and extremely correct, some of his team-mates weren't as kind.
Cammarere lunged at Bovalino feet-first towards the end of the game, and the Pars' No 11 was only lucky to escape unscathed.
Similarly, Bozano made a high-flying (and late) tackle once Marletta got past him on the edge of the box, forcing the captain to jump even higher not to get caught.
Finally, Nicora made a wide - and widely inappropriate - use of his elbows, perhaps he should concentrate a wee more on his football and just stick his backheel flicks up his arse.
One thing is for certain, Dunfermline's players didn't make a mess of it, they kept their cool, but they will not want play these same opponents ever again, unless they're forced to do so by some kind of Liguria Cup draw.
That is because Gymnasia won't make it anywhere near Division B, and that's another certainty.

GENOVA - Dunfermline's board, as announced, met with AICS yesterday in order to complete the club's registration for the 2009/10 Division B campaign.
As the preferred football ground, located in Via Ungaretti, was unavailable for choice except for matches starting at 10 pm, the board had to put their plan-b to effect, and the San Desiderio ground has been chosen as the one that'll host this season's home games, with ko's scheduled at 8 pm.

DECISION DAY

GENOVA - Dunfermline's board will today hold a meeting with AICS, at the association's headquarters in Genoa, to the extent of deciding which football ground the club will have at its disposal for its home games ahead of the forthcoming 2009/10 Division B campaign.
The players and coaching staff have drafted a pre-list including three favoured grounds, with Ungaretti again emerging as the lads' first choice, and San Desiderio and Emiliani Nervi, should the latter become available, as back-up selections.

Meanwhile, Ducco and Crosetti will miss tonight's game against Division C opponents Gymnasia San Martino, thus leaving Vanin with only 6 squad members.
The gaffer may at some stage deploy himself as an outfield player, but Alessandro Chiabrera, a trialist, has been summoned to make up the numbers and should get a chance to start.

Perugini and Rossi will both make their season debut tonight, following the goalkeeper's return from his homeland and the forward's shrugging off of his ankle injury.

FRIENDLY: Dunfermline v Gymnasia San Martino

GENOVA - Dunfermline will lock horns against Division C outfit Gymnasia San Martino on Wednesday 14th September. The game will take place at San Desiderio and will kick-off at 10 pm.
Although the two sides have never met in competitive matches, they have quite a record as far as friendly games are concerned. Gymnasia twice overcame the Pars in as many friendlies, whilst Dunfermline had the better of their rivals in their only participation at the "Tutto in una notte" Tournament, an unofficial competition, at the back end of the 2007/2008 season.
Gaffer Vanin may well have to deploy himself as an outfield player on Wednesday night, as a number of players shall be unavailable.
He should still have enough to cope, however he'll be wise to have his playing kit with him.

Perugini is set to come back between the sticks, thus giving Semino some respite after a rather hectic start to pre-season.
Frassinelli won't be available owing to personal reasons, which means Filippi, Merello and Crosetti will fight it out for two starting slots, although one of those three could be likely to fill in on the left flank of midfield.
That is unless Ducco manages to don the red shirt for the first time this season.
This is because Finotti and Cantelli will both sit this one out through working duties, leaving Marletta and Bovalino the only two natural midfielders available.
Finally, Stefano Rossi is also set to make his comeback from his ankle injury, which has left him sidelined ever since the Pars overhauled Tricche Ballacche amidst the Primavera Tournament Round of 32.

FRIENDLY - Dunfermline 11, Rapid Sanchez 10

SAN DESIDERIO - A pulsating, albeit scratchy at times, game, came to a close around 11.30 pm last night, with Dunfermline worthy winners over Zonale outfit Rapid Sanchez.
The friendly match was eventually sat out by Filippi, ill with flu, Rossi, who's struggling to get rid of his ankle injury, and Crosetti, otherwise engaged.
Vanin therefore deployed Semino in goal, Frassinelli and Merello in defence, a midfield trio composed by Marletta, Bovalino and Finotti, while Cantelli started upfront.
In all truth, Dunfermline did show some good football at times, but their fitness is still far from what it should be, and for such reason further training sessions may become necessary.
The first half ended with Dunfermline one goal ahead, a 6-5 scoreline which was almost entirely due to Cantelli, who scored 5 of those goals, while Finotti grabbed the other.
Goals scored, goals conceded, and a particularly slow flow of play didn't make for an extremely entertaining game, but in the end the Pars just edged the game, with the final scoreline reading 11-10.
The second half goals were grabbed by Merello, Bovalino, Own Goal, Frassinelli (2).

FRIENDLY - Dunfermline v Rapid Sanchez

GENOVA - Dunfermline will play the second friendly match of their pre-season campaign against Zonale outfit Rapid Sanchez on Wednesday 9th September, ko 10 pm.
The fixture was initially meant to be a re-match of last week's tie against Metropolitan Style, but the opponents have withdrawn their availability for such date and will therefore be replaced by the newly established club, which will share a few players with Division C team Hattrick Federation.

Semino should retain the goalkeeping post, as Perugini is still away in his native Umbria. In defence, Frassinelli, Merello and Filippi should all be available, while Crosetti is yet to confirm his presence.
In midfield, Marletta should be back in action after missing out on last week's tie through working duties, while Bovalino, Finotti and Cantelli should all be available for selection, whereas Ducco is still training every week-night with his FIGC club and will therefore sit this one out.
Similarly to Perugia, Buccianti is still in Tuscany with his family, and Rossi, too, should make his comeback following a recurrence of a niggling ankle injury.

DUNFERMLINE 9, METROPOLITAN STYLE 6

TRE PINI - The first friendly match of the new season saw the Pars overcome Zonale outfit Metropolitan Style by 9 goals to 6.
With form and fitness still deemed scrappy and patchy, Dunfermline nonetheless produced a notable performance and were worthy winners.
On top of the announced absentees, both club captain Marletta and forward Rossi ended up missing out on the tie through working duty and a recurrence of a niggling ankle injury respectively.

Gaffer Vanin therefore deployed Semino in goal, with Frassinelli and Merello in defence, while Bovalino took centre stage in midfield, flanked by Finotti and Filippi on the wings and Cantelli playing (and scoring) upfront.
Crosetti was later introduced to replace Frassinelli midway through the game.

The two sides will meet again, this time at San Desiderio, on Wednesday 9th September, ko 10 pm.

FRIENDLY MATCH - Dunfermline v Metropolitan Style

GENOA - The 2009/10 campaign will officially get under way on Thursday night, as Dunfermline will take to the pitch for their first friendly match of the season against Zonale outfit Metropolitan Style.
Gaffer Vanin will not be able to count on a full strength squad, however most of his first teamers shall be available for the fixture, due to take place at the Tre Pini ground, kick-off 8 pm.

With Perugini and Buccianti still enjoying their final bits of holiday in their homelands of Umbria and Tuscany respectively, and Ducco missing out through his FIGC club training duties, the manager's options are limited, although he surely has enough manpower to cope.
On top of the above-mentioned absentees, Vanin may find himself without Crosetti, who could be busy with his working duties, while Merello is likely to make the game, albeit arriving at the ground a bit later than ko time.

All other members of the squad, including Semino, who will be very much part of the team this term as well, should be available.

The squad for the tie should therefore looks as follows:

01 Semino

04 Merello
08 Filippi
10 Frassinelli
(17 Crosetti)

05 Marletta
11 Bovalino
15 Finotti

06 Cantelli
07 Rossi
