PREVIEW - Gameweek 10

NEW REDS PONENTE - AMICI DI BERTO (Referee: Nicolini)

New Reds will be on the hunt for another upset, after unexpectedly beating Never Alone last week. Amici di Berto, on the other hand, will be looking to take advantage from the encounter between 2nd placed sides Dunfermline and Le Café to bolster their cushion or, at the very least, keep hold of their top-spot position. New Reds are two points shy of the playoff zone and will look not to lose contact.

LE CAFE - DUNFERMLINE (Vidal)

For a full match preview click here

XENEISES - COMPAGNIA DELLE INDIE (Castillo)

Points would be vital for Xeneises' hopes to resurrect a playoff chance this terms. Compagnia failed to score at the weekend, in what ended up as a 1-0 home defeat to Las Cuevas.

That Xeneises have signed former Praese striker Alberto Mostes will only help revive their ambitions and league position, however Compagnia, albeit not at the best of their form so far this season, look the more likely to snatch all three points.

NEVER ALONE SOCCER - LAS CUEVAS (Ballacchino)

This is a proverbial six pointer. Never Alone surprisingly lost to New Reds last week, whilst Las Cuevas pulled off a great result by defeating Compagnia by 1 goal to nil.

Second placed Dunfermline and Le Cafè are out of reach either way just at the moment, however to lose this game would dent either side's hopes of making up for the lost ground in the race to the top-two.

SAMPIERDARENA - BORUSSIA (Sergini)

Samp were given a midweek blow, as they learnt the FA adjudged them to have breached signings regulations and therefore wrote off their hardly gained point against Dunfermline.

On the other hand, Borussia coasted to victory, thrashing bottom side Aston Villa 8-1 in a one sided encounter.

Owing to the FA decision, Sampierdarena are only two points above the non playoff zone, whilst Borussia will be looking to extend their good run of results and not lose contact with the top-two.

INTERNAZIONALE - ASTON VILLA SCASSI (Monteiro)
Internazionale will be on the back of a draw against fellow strugglers Xeneises, whilst Aston Villa are still without a point in 9 games and showing little sign of improvement, even though their goalscoring ratio has slighly gotten better of late. However, it is easy to predict a home win for this match.

PREVIEW - Le Café

The Pars have been handed an off-the-pitch win by the FA, owing to a breach of signings regulations on the part of last week's opponents Sampierdarena.
This means that the game against Le Café, scheduled to take place at the Blacks' home ground of Il Boschetto on Sunday night, will be an encounter between two 2nd place sides.
As the teams are currently level on points, Dunfermline have a slight edge as their goal difference is marginally better at the moment.
However, this will be no easy game at all, as Le Café have been tipped by many as real contenders for promotion a number of times.
They failed to collect any points from last week's cracker against Amici di Berto, thus losing top-spot in favour of their opponents, however they look a threatening side, one which is full of quality and individual skills.
The striking partnership of club's top-scorer Ndiaga and Brazilian forward De Almeida has been hailed as impressive and capable of match winning performances, but it is to remark how other players - Puggioni and Ciaravolo, to name but two of them - have contributed goal-wise.
Moreover, Le Café can count on one of the finest Ligurian goalkeepers of the 82 class in Antonio Vivardi, previously of Molassana.
Prior to the defeat at the hands of Amici di Berto, Le Café only dropped points in a shock 8-4 defeat by Xeneises.
Le Café have won all of their home ties this far, on the other hand the Pars have collected 4 away wins out of a possible 5, dropping points on the road only against Las Cuevas on Matchday 2 of the season.

Fernandez Filippi will return to the side after having missed out on the game against Sampierdarena, and Borreani may be involved as well, after a six match absence, following his injury on his debut against New Reds.

FA DECISION - Dunfermline - Sampierdarena 4-0

Much in the same way Dunfermline were robbed of the deserved point against Compagnia delle Indie on Matchday 1, they've now collected two extra unexpected points, following an FA decision, which has ruled that the 2-2 draw sould be quashed and turned into a 4-0 victory, owing to a breach of signings regulations.

Basically, Sampierdarena have failed to produce all necessary documents and papers necessary to the signing of their new goalkeeper Federico Bruzzone, which represents a breach of FA regulation D10.1.5

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
We don't like winning games like this. Sampierdarena played an excellent game and they fully deserved to get a point out of it.
They gave us a game and even managed to establish a two-goal cushion, before a hard fought comeback levelled things up for us.
It's AICS (The local FA) which make the rules, either fair or unfair we're all bound to respect them, as they never fail to take chance to remind us all by means of disputable reports and statements.
It is deeply unfair, as they shouldn't be concerned whether a FIGC (the national domestic FA) player holds a permit to play for an AICS side at the same time, as long as the geneal requirements of the league are fully met and satisfied.
It is an unjust rule, but by accepting to play in this league, we're also bound to accept all norms regulating signings, transfers, disciplinary actions and so forth.
We wish Samp well for the remainder of the league, hoping their true potential will come good and spell high-flying berths in the table, however we couldn't let this go as it was, considering we were a primary and earlier subject of the application of the very same rule when we breached it against Compagnia delle Indie back in November.

UPDATED LEAGUE TABLE

As a consequence of this FA controversial decision, the updated league table shapes up as follows:

GAMEWEEK 9 - Round up

Amici Di Berto re-gained the group leadership at the weekend, after beating fellow high-flyers Le Cafè in a surprise 5-3 ending. Dunfermline kind of failed to take full advantage and break into the top two as they were held by brave Sampierdarena at G.Mora, the yellow and red establishing a two-goal cushion before goals from Buccianti and Clegg levelled things up either side of the half-time break.
This means The Pars are now three points adrift of the top-spot, and two away from 2nd berth.
Elsewhere, 4th place Never Alone were unlikely losers away to New Reds, thus being reached by Borussia and Las Cuevas, which won their encounters against dipping form Compagnia delle Indie (1-0) and pointless Aston Villa Scassi (8-4) respectively.
Compagnia have failed to live up to expectations thus far in the season, and are now the closest side, together with rejuvenated Sampierdarena, to the non-playoff zone, now only three points adrift for New Reds.
An enthusing 3-3 draw between Xeneises and Internazionale was a sort of mark to define the negative moment for both sides, still occupying 10th and 11th place respectively, ahead of an in-crisis Aston Villa Scassi side, which have now failed to collect any points from 9 encounters and, although they're signalling their intent by adding to their goalscoring tally, they look all the worse in defence.

SAMPIERDARENA - Analysis

SEMINO
Marco's goalkeeping has been a huge factor to the side since he joined The Pars.
Last night was no exception, as he produced a number of fine saves to salvage a point for the lads.
Couldn't do much about the goals, but his presence is as influential as tecnhically relevant.

FRASSINELLI
Once again, a fine display from The Pars' No 10. He cleared the lines, and resolved a host of potentially dangerous situations. It is not by chance that Dunfermline only conceded goals from free-kicks, as his composure and marking ability were absolutely undisputable in open-play situations.

BUTTITTA
A welcomed return to the starting lineup, Giuseppe was twice adjudged to have fouled his opponents - both times wrongly so -, only for Fornero and Ferrea to open a two goal cushion.
He never panicked, never lost his confidence, and had he been more lucky he could've put away one or two in the second half.

MARLETTA
When it comes to home games, he dismisses his fine touch game and turns into a defensive midfielder... with fine touch. He grabbed the equaliser from the spot and was denied by Bruzzone early on, from a customary free-kick. Got his first yellow of the season, yet another blunder from the ref.

DI NOTO
Not quite as influential as in other games, Dino was nevertheless a positive factor to the side.
His fine technique and passing ability were restricted by aggressive defending and poor refereeing, however he made his contribution felt in midfield.

CANTELLI
He, too, was yellow-carded for nothing. His class is of a higher level, and his finishing of the highest quality. He was unlucky not to put any away on the night, but he created the kind of openings which most certainly produce goals.

BUCCIANTI
It is unclear whether he's going to be credited with the 2-1 goal, however he certainly played his part in that goal, and in other attacking actions.
He was unlucky not to grab a winner, as his lash from outside the box hit the crossbar to deny him.

BOVALINO
He didn't start the game, but since he came on he provided his team-mates with the usual amount of good passes and runs.
Not his best game to date, but he surely helped out and finished the match playing alongside Frassi in defence and at the same time providing back-up for the midfield package.

GAFFER VANIN
His coaching ability is far well-known now. His first-half substitutions are becoming a wee bit of a trademark move and he pushed as far as he could to try and win the game, leaving Frassinelli to single-handedly manage the defence in the final few minutes of the game, being sporadically assisted by Bovalino.
A good game, even though the all-winning string of 6 matches has come to an end.

REF
We don't like discussing referees, as poor performances remain poor performances and great goals remain great goals, ref notwithstanding.
However, the last-minute sub to Ref Molè got all main decisions wrong.
He unjustly gave two free-kicks, which resulted in as many Sampierdarena goals.
He cautioned Clegg & Cante for protests they didn't actually raise and, in all fairness, the Dunfermline penalty was never going to be a penalty.
He ruined a game between two loyal and extremely equipped sides, much to all parties' dissatisfaction.

DUNFERMLINE - SAMPIERDARENA 2-2

Dunfermline could not make it 7 wins in a row and therefore failed to break into the top two, after having been held by valuable opponents Sampierdarena at 2-2.
The Pars had to produce a fine comeback from 2 goals down and at least salvaged a point in what was a tight and edgy encounter, the ref - a nutter in a black shirt - proving highly inadequate to handle such a relevant game.
Filippi's absence had long been learnt of, whilst suggestions that Borreani would make an impact return were played down soon before kick-off, as the influential midfielder wasn't involved yet again.
Wanyn played Semino in goal, Buttitta returned to the starting lineup to partner Frassinelli in defence, while Marletta and Di Noto were in midfield, Cantelli and Buccianti completing the 7 upfront.
Bovalino sat on the bench, at least initially, and the game got underway to a nervy start, neither side finding any spaces on the break.
It was Sampierdarena which took the lead from a disputed free-kick, the first of many mistakes made by the ref, who adjudged Buttitta to have fouled his man when it was as clear as light he didn't.
However, Fornero powered home from the ensuing kick to establish an early lead.
The Pars were on the trail for the first time in quite some time, but kept their composure, even though the narrowness of their home pitch proved once again a factor in limiting the Fifers' talents and sharpness.
However, the referee was once again at 6s and 7s when he awarded yet another dubious free-kick just a couple of yards outside the box for what appeared as an ordinary challenge from Buttitta. If any, the ref should've adjudged an indirect free-kick, but Ferrea took it first time instead, and made it two-nil, much to the surprise of many.
Debuting Samp goalkeeper Bruzzone denied Marletta from a well-taken free-kick, before a scramble in the box proved too hot to handle and a lucky rebound allowed the Pars to pull one back before the break, Buccianti playing a part in proceedings.
Prior to the half-time whistle, Cantelli produced a fine clear-cut chance but was way too unlucky, as his right-footed shot slowly ended his run past the right hand post.

HALF-TIME: Dunfermline 1 Sampierdarena 2

Proceedings were resumed and The Pars were on the hunt for an equaliser, which came as the ref once again got it completely wrong, this time to The Pars' advantage, as he decided to give a penalty-kick for what should have been an indirect free-kick inside the box.
Buccianti did well to lose his marker, before receiving a kick on his chin from a slow and sloppy defender.
Protests were raised, but Marletta looked unfazed and coolly slotted home to even things up.
Semino was once again a huge factor, producing a string of fine saves, including a stop with his feet, the ball bouncing back on the post and again on his feet to give his side a major scare, but only a corner kick resulted from that.
The Pars themselves had two glorious chances to take all three points, but Buccianti was denied by the cross bar to end a marvellous counter-attack.
Later on, Marletta cleared the ball off the line, re-started play and knocked the ball to Cantelli who, in a 4 against 1 counter attack, picked Buttitta to try and finish it off, but the Sicilian defender checked his run and couldn't take advantage.

LEAGUE FILM - Goals

The board have announced today that a new service will be available to all supporters of the YELLOW and BLUE (yellow and blue, Mr Gianso, yellow and blue), as part of the on-the-pitch action is going to be presented on http://dunfermlineafc.blogspot.com/.

The enthusing novelty gets underway with a very significant piece of play, The Pars' 9th goal against Xeneises, during their 9-1 mauling of the Begato-based club.

The goalscorer, our very own No 10 Fabio Frassinelli, has given us his thoughts about the season and the team.

"It's been quite a delighting season so far, we've now achieved six wins in a row, which is something that cannot be achieved by every single team in the league.

We've a great group and great togetherness here, each one of us has shown great willingness to sacrifice for the common cause and, more importantly, we all love playing for this club and these colours

Asked about the forthcoming game against Sampierdarena, Fabio said

"It's going to be a fundamental game for us. Should we win it, we'd fire ourselves up to second, we'll have to put up a great fight and be determined to snatch the result we want", which - it goes without saying - is a win.

Fabio also expressed regret at the way the season got underway in November

"Shame we couldn't pick up any points from the first two games (the 3-3 draw against Compagnia delle Indie was quashed by FA and a 4-0 win was awarded to the Reds), but we've gotten much better since and the results are there for us to see"

Preview - Gameweek 9

NEVER ALONE SOCCER - NEW REDS PONENTE (Referee: Negro)
Never Alone are obvious favourite to snatch all three points, considering New Reds have been underachieving by far this term and lost their last game against Compagnia delle Indie, putting in an abysmal performance and conceding 8 goals.
On the other hand, Never Alone made the most of their home encounter against Xeneises, by imposing them a 6-2 defeat and keeping up the pace with 3rd placed Dunfermline and table-toppers Le Cafe.

AMICI DI BERTO - LE CAFE (Acquapendente)
The cracker of the week. Amici Di Berto saw their unbeaten record beheaded last week, as they dropped points for only the second time this term, being on the receiving end of a 4-1 scoreline against Dunfermline. Le Cafe moved to top spot as a consequence of such a defeat and their own simultaneous easy win by 8 goals to 1 against bottom side Aston Villa Scassi.

XENEISES - INTERNAZIONALE (Peixoto)
It's either make or break for both sides, as their not-so-respectable records have been rather disappointing this term.
Xeneises hold a 3 point cushion over Internazionale and are closer to the playoff zone, however both sides were heavily defeated last week, against Never Alone Soccer and Borussia respectively.

DUNFERMLINE - SAMPIERDARENA NCLM (Molè)
For a full match preview click here

COMPAGNIA DELLE INDIE - LAS CUEVAS (Marino)
Compagnia and Las Cuevas find themselves level on points, having to make up for a 7 point gap from 2nd spot and holding an equal cushion over the non-playoff zone.
Plenty of goals may be on the cards, for what is announced to be an enthralling and entertaining game at San Desiderio. Both teams are more than capable of scoring at will, however both defence packages have been sloppier than expected this far.

BORUSSIA - ASTON VILLA SCASSI (Castillo)
Aston Villa Scassi do not look any likely to break their point duck in the league, as Borussia appear an in-form side and eased past their local rivals Internazionale by 6-1 last week and will be hungry for more points to build upon their renewed playoff ambitions.
On the other hand, Aston Villa have shown slight progress of late, and will no doubt endeavour themselves to collect their first points of the season, contrary odds notwithstanding.

PREVIEW - Sampierdarena

Dunfermline will face yet another tough test as they take on Sampierdarena NCLM on Sunday night.

The game will be played out at the Pars' home ground of G.Mora Quarto and the Fifers could move up to second, should they beat their opponents, owing to the simultaneous encounter between table-toppers Le Cafe (21 pts) and current runners-up Amici Di Berto (19).

This is the first ever tie between the two sides, as Sampierdarena partake in the league for the first time this season, their main marksman Andrea Ferrea having scored 18 goals thus far.

The West Genoa team currently sit 8th after losing their weekend fixture to Las Cuevas, but it's a tight pack upfront and 2nd spot is only 7 points away.

On the other hand, Samp do hold a comfortable 5 point cushion over the non-playoff zone, New Reds Ponente sitting 9th on 7 points.

The Pars will be without sharp defender Fernandez Filippi, who will miss out on the game through a trip to Sweden and Holland, whilst both Borreani and Alberga might be involved.

The other players are all available for selection and Gaffer Wanyn is entirely likely to field a 2-2-2 lineup owing to the narrowness of the G.Mora pitch.

Ispirational forward/midfielder Cantelli keeps on suffering from the recurrence of a knee injury, however he should be in the fold to face Sampierdarena, whereas there's no news of further blows for the manager.

GAMEWEEK 8 - Round Up

Group B new leaders Le Cafe had it the easy way against bottom and pointless side Aston Villa Scassi, getting past them with a thunderous 8-1 win.
Even better news for Le Cafe came from Pegli, where 3rd place Dunfermline mauled former front-runners Amici di Berto, collecting their sixth win on the trot by 4 goals to 1 in what had been foreseen as a very tight game.
Such a win means that, should Dunfermline beat Sampierdarena next Sunday, they'll move to second spot, as Le Cafe and Amici di Berto take on one another in a six-pointer.
Elsewhere, Compagnia delle Indie easily had the better of New Reds Ponente (0-8), now 5 points adrift of the playoff zone, returning to the massive scoreline modality which characterised many of the Reds' games last term.
Never Alone kept up the pace of both Le Cafe and Dunfermline, beating a dipping form Xeneises side by 6-2, with a convincing performance which saw the black outfit maintain 4th place and Xeneises slip further down the table, now 6 points adrift of the playoff spots.
Las Cuevas were good enough to see off opposition from inconsistent Sampierdarena, contextually leapfrogging the West Genoa outfit, now sitting 8th and on the look-out for a more constant run of results.
Finally, the Monday night encounter saw Borussia thrash second-bottom Internazionale in a derby which looked much like one way traffic, as the pink team defeated their local rivals by 6 goals to 1, to reach Compagnia and Las Cuevas and pip Sampierdarena to the post.

PARS TRIO to join travelling party

The board have confirmed today that Matteo Bovalino, Alessio Di Noto and Marco Semino will join their team-mates and supporters on the journey to Scotland, which will take place from 11-14 March.
Bookings have been finalised for all three players, much to the enthusiasm of players and fans.

AMICI DI BERTO - Post match comments

The lads were quite euphoric after landing their sixth win on the spin, even more so as the latest of a string of scalps taken by The Pars belong to former front runners Amici di Berto.
One could have heard the boys singing and chanting triumphantly in the dressing room last night, after a performance which could easily be labelled as their best this season, perhaps staking a claim for an all times absolute best from the Genoese Fifers.

Let's look into the lads' performances and post-match comments

MARCO SEMINO
Semi's goalkeeping ability are turning out to be a massive asset to the team, and last night performance was no exception, as he produced a couple of excellent save - notably a great dive to deny Bruzzone minutes after kick-off, and a good punch to block a free-kick attempt by Steiner.
"I think we're only getting better, building up on some good class and great togetherness"

DAVIDE FILIPPI
Fernandez turned in yet another flawless performance at the back, his pace and marking ability proving once again a factor in the side's jigsaw. Unfortunately, he'll miss out on the next game through a trip to Stockholm.
"I was always calm. I never thought we wouldn't have won the game, we were the better side on the night and I think we deserved to win"

FABIO FRASSINELLI
Fabio provided the supporters and his team-mates with a late scare, as he went down after his head was hit by a powerful shot.
However, he produced a man-of-the-match performance, albeit marred by a sloppily given yellow card, on the part of the ref. He had kind words for goalkeeper Marco Semino:
"If we hadn't him, we would sit far below where we are just at the moment. We produced a great performance, we've got to keep on winning games"

ALESSIO DI NOTO
Dino started wide on the left last night, then he swapped positions with Clegg and, in both roles, he produced fine touches and passes. He was denied by the post when the scores were still level, but ultimately helped his side win the game with good ball administration
"I'd like to have the Champions League jingle in the dressing room before the games. That'd give us extra-motivation, we're doing extremely good"

ALDO MARLETTA
Clegg grabbed his first brace of the season, to bring his term tally to 5 and his all-time record for Dunfermline to 22. He scored from a stunning free-kick to make it 2-1 to then seal it at 4-1 and finish the opponents off with a run-in which was triggered by some senseless defending on the part of Amici. Early on, he'd spurned a good chance to open the score but, no doubts whatsoever, he is back.
"I'm glad with the team performance, and mine too. It was a collective effort with moments of individual brilliance from all of the players on the park. My form is improving, although I'm not at hundred per cent just yet"

MATTEO BOVALINO
Bova had to get to grips with goalscorer Steiner, he committed himself to a more defensive role and was absolutely spot on in doing so. His "prosaic", but utterly helpful performance, saw him run and tussle all game long when he was on the pitch
"I'm looking forward to every single game. We've got tonight [Sunday] and tomorrow [Monday] to enjoy this win, then we'll have to play it down, have it sunken in, and prepare for the next game. This bunch of players is turning out to be a bunch of good friends as well, we're an on and off the pitch team"

MARCO CANTELLI
Well, what more can be said about this absolutely fantastic player? He's got an injured knee but that doesn't show whatsoever. He opened the score and gave Amici's defenders a hell of a hard time by always fighting for the ball - very often winning possession, actually -, shooting, beating men. Scoring. His opening goal was a mixture of his technique, composure and shooting skills.
Marvellous.
"Well, it's a good feeling when you win games like this. We were extremely good and we want to keep this form going"

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI
Buccia scored once again and he was an influential figure on the pitch, his fine moves causing havoc in the opponents' defence.
He could be credited with merit, if not with the goal itself, for the 3-1 goal, which hinged from a fine individual move before hitting a very unlucky defender and head towards the back of the net
"This was such a great game. We thoroughly deserved to win it, we've now a bunch of competitive players, all playing at pretty much the same level. I think we're in for a further good run of results now, but we need to keep it cool, without getting carried away"

GIUSEPPE BUTTITTA
The Sicilian defender returned to action after missing out on 3 games. His contribution at the back was absolutely tangible, he helped the back-package remain calm with the scores level and enjoyed the best bit of the game in the thick of the action. His ability will surely prove an added value to the team in the next games
"Well, we had a decent performance, hopefully I can get more starts in the near future, but I'm absolutely delighted at the way we faced the game

LUIGI VANIN (Manager)
Wanyn, much to many's surprise, played Cantelli upfront, Di Noto on the left and left club's top scorer Buccianti out, at least initially.
That proved an excellent move, as Cante tired the defence with his continuous movement and front changes, before Buccia was thrust on the pitch to finish them off.
Dino was then swapped with Clegg after the break, to be withdrawn himself later on, Clegg returning to his midfield centre-slot after having proved effective on the right as well.
His rotational policy is paying dividends, he can count on a number of classy and motivated players, whom he's driving to success.
"We had an excellent game, we're a strong, finished side and we can take on just whoever at the moment. We don't have to think we've done anything, cause that'd prove a big mistake, but we certainly are on the right footpath"

AMICI DI BERTO - DUNFERMLINE 1-4

The Pars annihilated previous table-toppers Amici di Berto, collecting their sixth win on the bounce, with an emphatic away victory which resembled more to a mauling than to a tight game.
Gaffer Wanyn named a side which surprisingly saw Buccianti on the bench, with Semino in goal, Frassinelli and Filippi in defence, the midfield package composed by Marletta, Di Noto and Bovalino, Cantelli starting upfront owing to a sore knee which would have ruled him out had he been picked to play wide on the flank, which he did, though, when Buccianti was thrust on the pitch.
Proceedings got underway and Dunfermline looked the better side from the word go, Marletta spurning a good chance from close range after having been put through by brilliant Cantelli.
Semino turned in yet another stunning performance, denying Amici's Steiner from a well taken free kick.
It was the Pars who took the lead through Marco Cantelli, as he fired home from outside the box, an effort which proved too much for the goalkeeper to parry.
Amici had a couple of chances from a couple of debatable free-kicks, before netting the equaliser through another Steiner free-kick just before half time.
Dunfermline seemed unfazed as the game resumed to a one-sided second half, which saw the Scots triumph in quite some style.
The players on the park looked as sharp as ever, the gaffer off it made an excellent work with his rotational policy, which was thoroughly applied and indeed worked to the team's advantage.
It took a stunning Clegg free-kick to re-establish The Pars' lead midway through the second half, the captain driving the ball past the keeper from outside the box in his customary style.
It was then 3-1 as Buccia produced a fine effort inside the box, only for a luck-less Amici defender to put the ball in his own net from close range.
Finally, Clegg took advantage of some sloppy defending and goalkeeping to record his first brace of the season and all but end any hopes Amici di Berto had of salvaging their unbeaten record.

PREVIEW - Gameweek 8

NEW REDS PONENTE - COMPAGNIA DELLE INDIE (Referee: Ballacchino)
New Reds may try and snatch those points which could well fire them up the table, at the expenses of Compagnia themselves. The latter side haven't enjoyed the best run of results of late, underachieving and failing to record any points in the last two games, after their 8-0 thumping of bottom side Aston Villa Scassi.

LE CAFE - ASTON VILLA SCASSI (Arvigo)
This encounter's ending has already been written by many pundits and experts, however it'd be wise to remember how Le Cafe only dropped points to minnows Xeneises this term, losing 8-4 in the absensce of their main marksman N'Diaga.
Aston Villa scored a club-record 3 goals against New Reds last week, but they were yet again on the receiving end of a defeat, the final score 6-3

AMICI DI BERTO - DUNFERMLINE (Speziari)
Please click here for a full match preview

NEVER ALONE SOCCER - XENEISES (Siracusa)
Never Alone had the better of Borussia on the final whistle last week, they're currently sitting 4th and a possible win - should Dunfermline fail to collect points against table-toppers Amici Di Berto - could see the black outfit rise to third in the league.
Xeneises are on the back of a mauling, masterminded by The Pars last weekend, and they'll have to produce a good performance if they're to resurrect any playoff ambition.

LAS CUEVAS - SAMPIERDARENA (Negro)
Las Cuevas are without a win in three games, their last victory was collected against Internazionale on December 2nd.
On the contrary, in-form Sampierdarena picked up six points from six against Compagnia delle Indie and Internazionale, thus placing themselves at a provisional 5th.

INTERNAZIONALE - BORUSSIA (Madiai)
The Ca de Rissi derby rival appears as an interesting one, however the odds are for Borussia to pick up a likely win, after dramatically losing to Never Alone last week, in a 2-1 defeat which hasn't diminished their self-confidence, mainly owing to a proud performance from the pink/black package.

WIND-WARDS, WIN-WARDS - The Anthem

Picking up the pieces of another night
Funny how you see shapes in the absence of light
Funny how you lose or win in a single while

He who wins is stainless, or maybe someone
Who puts their guilt behind them
Ang go on with their run
Cause when you stop running
You're as good as done

(Chorus)
And wind will no longer hold you back
Cos wind-wards you don't walk
You simply fly
And win-wards, cos win's what you're aiming at
'Til victory is finally reached

He who wins is stainless, or maybe just someone
Who puts their guilt behind them
Ang go on with their run

Don't do it for the name of it
Nor for glory
Just do it so you'll make it
Your own history

(Chorus)

The sweetest days
The sweetest taste
When victory is finally reached
Now victory is finally reached

THE ROAD TO SCOTLAND - Part Two

As announced earlier this week, The Pars will make a trip to Scotland, to get acquainted with their "original counterparts" in West Fife, having been invited by Jim Leishman MBE himself to witness the home game against Hamilton Accies, which is going to be held at East End Park on 12th March.
As of now, such journey plan has collected an unexpectedly high number of participants, the bookings have been all but finalised last night at Clegg's place.

The party shall be composed by the following members of the squad and their friends:

PLAYERS:
Giuseppe Alberga
Alberto Buccianti
Marco Cantelli
Davide Filippi
Fabio Frassinelli
Aldo Marletta

SUPPORTERS:
Carola Canevello
Beatrice L'Abbate
Giulia La Monica
Claudio Morsello
Claudia Sani
Erica Tenconi

Some sort of final feedback is also expected from Giuseppe Buttitta, Alessio Di Noto, Marco Semino and Matteo Bovalino over the next few days, however chances that Gaffer Luigi Vanin & wife join the travelling party were all but ended last night, following statements from the parties.

The lads and lassies have also shortlisted a number of low-cost accomodations in Edinburgh, opting for Scotland's capital as their base owing to cheaper accomodations.
However, they're going to give it a last try through their connections with Dunfermline Athletic Football Club and see whether anything interesting will come up in West Fife.

PREVIEW - Amici di Berto

The Pars will take on table-toppers Amici di Berto, in an away fixture which will be played out at Ungaretti on Sunday night.
This is the first-ever encounter between the sides, one which has quickly been labelled as the most interesting match of the week.

Amici di Berto can count on the best attack of the group, having scored 46 goals, whilst the Pars’ second-best firing package sits at 39.
Defence-wise, stats appear even more similar, the sides’ roles being reversed, as Dunfermline defence has conceded the fewest goals (17), and Amici di Berto’s one is just behind such figure on 19.

The striking partnership composed by Calcagno and Steiner, with the excellent goal-scoring contribution from midfielder Bruzzone, have paved the way for an extremely good start to the campaign, which saw Amici drop only two points, against high-flyers Never Alone Soccer, in a 3-3 draw.

On the other hand, The Pars will also have their say, Cantelli and Buccianti appearing absolutely on fire, joined by a goal-capable midfield package of Marletta, Bovalino and Di Noto, all available for selection.

Dunfermline have now achieved five wins on the bounce, and are looking for an upset which would hardly gain them any positions in the table’s pecking order at the weekend, mainly owing to the fact second-placed Le Café will play bottom and pointless team Aston Villa Scassi.

However, there’s more to this game than just provisional leadership or current position, as an away win of such an impact could well fuel The Pars with even more ambition and desire to succeed in the league.

Giuseppe Buttitta should finally make his return, having missed out on last week’s mauling of Xeneises through illness, and the previous fixtures against Never Alone Soccer and Internazionale through other duties.

So the travelling package should include the following players, let alone any contingent last-minute involvement for Andrea Borreani and Giuseppe Alberga:

GK: Semino
D: Buttitta, Filippi, Frassinelli
M: Bovalino, Di Noto, Marletta
F: Buccianti, Cantelli

BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT - The Road To Scotland

Bonnie and Babbi in Levico Terme

The board have announced that a delegation of the Genoese Pars will travel to Scotland during the first part of March.
The trip will be entirely paid for by the attending players, coaching staff and supporters, as opposed to earlier indications given by former sponsor Vision Service, much to all parties' satisfaction, as all hard-earned things taste much better in the end, don't they?
The attending members of the club will travel from Milan to Edinburgh on 11th March and, although a final accomodation is yet to be selected, they will stay in Dunfermline, where they've been invited by former Dunfermline AFC manager, and current Director of Football Jim Leishman MBE, to witness the Division One game against Hamilton Academicals, which will be played out at East End Park (!) on 12th March, ko 1945 local time.

At this moment of time, the highest promptness in booking the flights is requested, arrangements - albeit in the process of being finalised - have been widely illustrated by club captain Aldo Marletta "Clegg", who will also host the lads at his Corso Firenze home on the evening of Thu 17th January, in order to complete booking procedures.
It is also requested, to the purpose of avoiding unnecessary trouble with EasyJet booking system, that the players, coaching staff and supporters involved make their own reservations at different times, if possible before the meeting which will be held at Clegg's place on Thursday night, so as to allow up the necessary time to discuss accomodation.

As of now, the following members of the club have made their reservations:

Aldo Marletta, midfielder
Alberto Buccianti, forward
Fabio Frassinelli, defender

Erica Tenconi, chief supporter

BOARD STATEMENT
Now, a couple of words must be spent to thank our very own - and very special indeed - supporters.
The entire purpose of this whole football playing activity has been to have fun from the word go.
Last year, early days of September or thereabouts, Aldo Marletta, Luigi Vanin and Christian Satta made a whole lot of mistakes, owing to the time shortage they had to get to grips with in the process of recruiting players.
Many of those players have come and gone in a flash, without leaving the shadow of a regret upon parting company with the Pars.
That was very much the case of Claude Orengo, Alberto Pala, Matteo Bruno and Ezio Del Nero, who were all released by the club midway through the 2006/2007 campaign.
That was very much the case of Stefano Morelli, who only played one game for the Pars, yet scoring a brace in a 2-4 defeat to Hattrick Federation, and left the team soon afterwards.
Marco Langella left the club at the end of the 2006/2007 campaign, so did forward Luca Gemignani, who's still highly rated at the club, though, and who knows...
Marco's brother Luigi sadly departed the club, owing to the lack of first team football he'd enjoyed at the beginning of the current term.
Other players, such as Daniele Sforza and co-founder Christian Satta himself, had to be ousted out, following unacceptable remarks and behaviour.

(...) Omissis owing to a debatable use of censorship

At one point of the 2006/2007 campaign, even current manager Luigi Vanin abandoned the club, before re-joining as a player in Levico Terme in September 2007.
As explained, he was then handed the managerial post, following the sacking of Renato Bertoldo, another fellow whose contribution to the club will be mostly remembered for mishaps, such as the ambush he underwent during the pre-season camp, as the "Company of the Druids" waterlogged his room at 2 AM - that was extremely funny by the way.
Slowly but constantly, the shaping up of the project went on, the current players joining the Pars.
Slowly but constantly, it has been said. Frassi (October 06), Bovalino (early 07), Fernandez and Cantelli (June 07) all played for Praese at academy level.
Buccia, a former Sangiovannese forward, returned to playing action in June 07, as he'd been the manager for the whole season - except the initial three fixtures, when Clegg was in charge - owing to a damaged cruciate ligament.
Slowly but constantly, Buttitta appeared, then it was time for Semino and Di Noto, who have considerably bolstered the squad since signing for the club.
All of this now makes sense, cos there appears to be a sense of togetherness on and off the pitch, and as soon as Andrea Borreani is available for selection again, it will be all the more interesting for the lads.
Thanks must be given to occasional performers such as Claudio Urru and Giuseppe "Pino" Alberga, whom we all hope to have back in the fold as promptly as possible.
But, why does all of this now make sense?
Is it because of five wins on the bounce?
Is it because it's nice having pasta at "2 di picche" restaurant?
Certainly so, however there's a much deeper reason why we keep on doing what we're doing.

Correct, the fans.
Erica Tenconi, our very own "Bonnie", has been there from the word go, in the thick and the thin, in the cold and the rain... in our hearts.
She'll travel to Scotland with the team, she thoroughly deserves it, she's an asset to the team.

Barbara "Babbi" Silvestri, the gaffer's wife, has also been there very often, and we thank her for her support and her always kind attitude and words.
Sarah "Longfield" Pratolongo, has missed out on a few too many games of late, but she was always there with her chants and her scarf.

Cante's girlfriend Giulia and the Carolines (Canevelji and Zucco) have also been backing us often - still waiting for the flares, Dos Santos, y'know what we mean!

Morsello "The Prince" was also a member of the coaching staff last year, his arrival coinciding with the best string of results in what had been a relatively poor campaign, and is now following The Pars' action on a spot-basis, but always expressing his sincere interest in the club.

So, to all of our fans, we'd like to say "Thanks a lot, your support means a lot to us. WE WOULDN'T MEAN A THING WITHOUT YOU"

All the best

RCC

No points yet for Aston Villa Scassi, once again defeated, New Reds collecting three easy points in massive fashion (6-3), doing no harm to their own hopes of making the playoff zone, now three points away.

XENEISES - Reaction

The Pars may have mauled Xeneises by nine goals to one last night, but both Amici di Berto and Le Cafe won their games respectively, which makes next game against table-toppers Amici an even tougher proposition for Dunfermline.
The guys were particularly upbeat, the following post-match declaration have been released:

GAFFER VANIN:
Our "creature" has now been doing well for a while, hopefully there'll be more to come in the coming few weeks and months

SEMINO:
I could see some togetherness here. This is a fantastic bunch of players and a great group. I couldn't find a poor performer tonight. I wouldn't know what to add to this side as of now

FERNANDEZ FILIPPI:
Obviously, Frassi wanted to go up and score the goal. I refuse to go up. I don't wanna score, I'm a defender - was Fernandez's ironic comment to the game

FRASSINELLI:
Had we had the same team we had at the beginning of the season, we would be much richer and have plenty more benefits, but we wouldn't be high-flying in the table, this is where we deserve to be, even though we'll have a number of tough games from now on.

BOVA:
Shame I couldn't score, I promised to the gaffer I'd have put one away, it wasn't to be. Great game, though, we did really well

CLEGG:
I was pretty pleased with the performance. I need to thank our fans for their magnificent support. We wouldn't mean a thing if it weren't for them.

CANTE:
My knee hurt a bit. However we had a good game out there. Now we've got to keep on focusing ahead of the next games.

BUCCIA:
I wouldn't expect such a good performance after the festivity break, so I'm delighted at the way we played on the night

DINO:
Good game. Look forward to the next one. It was great grabbing a hat-trick, we all played well.

CLEGG & FERNANDEZ to join Archinav

Aldo Marletta and Davide Filippi will join Zonale side Archinav, their debut will supposedly take place on Wed 16th January.
Current FA regulations entitle Division players to play for Zonale (local district league) sides, and indeed Clegg played for Materasso Team last term and, in his only game for the D'Onofrio-coached side this season, he scored a brace in a 4-5 defeat against MP 67.
"I'm only doing this for my fitness and form, which are nowhere near what they shoud be just at the moment", Clegg was reported to say.
"I'd been out for a couple of months and I need some extra training, obviously I will put my best commitment in, and try to repay the trust I'm given by the club".
Fernandez is also relishing the beginning of his parallel adventure, "I'm happy to join this highly-rated zonale side, that'll give me one extra game every week", the defender said.

DUNFERMLINE - Stats Corner

Having scored the remarkable milestone 100th goal in the club's history, Alberto Buccianti has also reached Christian Satta as second-best goalscorer for the club ever.
Given his current form, it won't be long before he leapfrogs him and actual all times topscorer Aldo Marletta, who notched his 20th goal for the club last night, in his return to action after 4 games on the sidelines.
Marco Cantelli, who scored some of the best goals this season, is also on the verge of making his way up this special table, after netting yet another brace in the 9-1 thumping of Xeneises.

GAMEWEEK 7 - Dunfermline - Xeneises 9-1

Dunfermline made it five in a row, with their thumping of Xeneises, which couldn't live up to the expectations of those who foresaw that they would have provided much tougher opposition.
It was one way traffic instead, and once the Pars found the back of the net through Marco Cantelli in the 12th minute, they had it in plain sailing modality.
Alberto Buccianti scored the much coveted 100th goal in the club's history, after Cantelli neatly put him through in front of goal.
The best goal of the night came again through Cantelli, who turned on the volley in style with his left, directly from a Filippi delivery from a throw in. That was just marvellous.
It was a good combination between Marletta and Cantelli which allowed the Pars' captain to score his third of the season and twentieth for the club just before the half time break.
HALF TIME: Dunfermline - Xeneises 4-0
Proceeds were resumed in much the same way they'd been interrupted, Di Noto scoring from just outside the box to make it 5-0.
It was then Buccianti again, making it six from close range after the goalkeeper had blocked his first attempt.
Di Noto quickly added to his and his team's tally with two well-craftet goals, either side of the consolation goal grabbed by Xeneises from a neat free-kick.
The final whistle coincided with Frassinelli's fine blast into the roof of the net, making it 9-1.

DIVISION C Weekend Preview

Gameweek 7 of Division C Group B is going to be a particularly hectic and interesting one, all games bearing table-relevant significance.
Dunfermline play host to 9th placed Xeneises, and they'll be at almost full strength for the first time since the league kicked in, the only notable absentee midfielder Andrea Borreani.
Aldo Marletta and Giuseppe Buttitta will be back in the fold and available for selection after a 4 and a 2 match stint on the sidelines respectively.
Fernandez Filippi should also be available after having recovered from a form of flu which saw him missing out on the midweek friendly game against Gymnasia.
Alberto Buccianti and Marco Semino will also return to playing action, while it is unclear whether Giuseppe Alberga will be in the fold.
The Pars take on Xeneises at their home ground G.Mora Quarto, kick-off 8.30 PM
Elsewhere, Las Cuevas will play host to Le Cafe Movida, in a game which could well represent a good occasion of either shortening the gap The Pars have to make up for in their quest to climb the table upwards, or widening their cushion over the teams sitting just below them.
Other notable six-pointers will see Compagnia delle Indie take on table-toppers Amici di Berto, whereas the Monday night encounter between Borussia and Never Alone Soccer will also attract interest in amongst fellow high-flyers.
Sampierdarena will play against dogged side Internazionale, trying to secure vital points for their playoff ambitions, whilst pointless Aston Villa Scassi will try to improve their extremely poor record when facing underachievers New Reds Ponente.

PARS ON THE HUNT FOR GOAL #100

The Pars will take on 9th-placed Xeneises on Sunday, knowing well their supporters may be able to witness history in the making.
Having scored 98 competitive goals in their one-and-a-half year footballing activity, they could well reach a milestone 100th goal soon enough.
The Pars have only failed to hit the net twice during their relatively short history, against WLF Genova (0-1) and Compagnia delle Indie (0-7), during the 2006/2007 campaign.
On the other hand, they could only manage one clean sheet, against bottom-side Olimpique Sestri (5-0), during the same term.
Moreover, it is rather curious to highlight how The Pars were awarded only one penalty-kick in 18 months, against minnows Olimpique Sestri yet again, in a 8-4 away win recorded last year.
Curiously, the same game witnessed Christian Satta's and Fabio Frassinelli's first marks for the club respectively, whilst Luca Gemignani and Aldo Marletta netted a hat-trick apiece.
So who is going to score goal No 100 for the Pars?
And when is that going to happen?
We shall see...

FRIENDLY: Dunfermline - Gymnasia 5-7

The Pars slipped up to an unexpected defeat against Gymnasia San Martino on a friendly game, played out at Don Bosco Stadium on Wednesday night.
In the absence of a proper goalkeeper, the lads stood in goal on a rotational policy, the lineup being composed by on-trial midfielder Capanni, Urru, Frassinelli, Bovalino, Di Noto, Marletta and Cantelli.
Goals came from Cantelli, Bovalino, Urru, Di Noto and Capanni.
Filippi missed out through illness, while Semino, Buccianti and Buttitta were both absent through other duties.
Meanwhile, Borreani has now been training on a regular basis and could soon be called upon to bolster the Pars fold.

The Pars take on Xeneises on Division C Gameweek 7 on Sunday, kick-off 8.30 PM.
Gaffer Luigi Vanin should be able to count on a nearly full-strenght side.

PREVIEW XENEISES - Fernandez

Davide Filippi "Fernandez" joined The Pars during their rather disappointing Torneo Primavera campaign last term. Having missed out on a couple of games at the beginning of the present season through a thorougly enjoyable trip to Australia, he got back into action, just in time to savour an inredibly good run of results, with four wins out of four against New Reds, Aston Villa, Never Alone and Internazionale.

Deployed with equally good profit at the back or wide on the flanks, Fernandez gave us his thoughts about the next league game, against league strugglers Xeneises.

"We don't have to have fear of Xeneises. We have to impose our tactical and technical superiority and - as old Bob said - everything's gonna be alright"

Such blatant self-confidence and trust in his team may well have derived from the positive run of form The Pars have been enjoying of late, however Fernandez is keen to push it to the next level

"During the first part of the season, I could see a real team out there on the pitch.

I think we got ourselves on the right path to try and win this league, we've got a lot of great players and now they're all back in the fold, they'll help us perform even better, better than ever actually".

PREVIEW XENEISES - Bova

Matteo Bovalino may be considered a technique-gifted player, one for the show and for brilliant play, but he's also shown he can be a fighter on the pitch, which has gained him further consideration and recognition on the part of his team mates, gaffer, and supporters.

Asked about the forthcoming game against Xeneises, Bova declared "Well, we must keep it cool, we've got all the ability required to go out there and perform. We need to keep calm and be aware that we've got the potential to come out worthy winners. We need to extend our current run of form, as we're going to face a host of extremely hard games in the weeks to come, I'm talking six pointers".

On how his team have fared so far, and the actual developments he thinks are in the shaping up in the coming months, Bova said "Well, obviously we've done well, we've reached a togetherness and awareness, in terms of how we play on the park, I really didn't expect to be put together this soon. Shame we got no points from the first two games of the season - the one hardly gained on the pitch against Compagnia delle Indie was later quashed by a somewhat controversial FA's decision -, but we got ourselves in a good position, one to build up on.

"I'm curious ahead of the games against Le Cafe, Amici di Berto, Borussia and Sampierdarena, however the biggest one must be the game against Compagnia delle Indie .

We need to perform against the strongest and better sides, and try to make the most of those six pointers against our high-flying rivals.

"Our group appears to be the toughest one, and it is also an unpredictable one as a consquence.

You face good sides, week in week out, so you may slip up when you don't expect it. On the other hand, a few teams may be considered to be overrated a little, it's a tough group to express clear judgements on, to be honest".

Asked about what the final and ultimate goal of his side should be this term, Matt replied:

"I only know that facts are more important than words, and that I'm not particularly keen to be on the trail of other teams for much longer, that is why we need to take advantage against the big guns and progress to the next stage"

PREVIEW XENEISES - Clegg

As the season is about to enter its crucial part, The Pars will be able to count on Aldo Marletta, returning to action after a 4 match interruption of his playing activity owing to a business trip to the Netherlands Antilles. "Clegg" has outlined for dunfermlineafc.blogspot.com the main features of the game lying ahead, which will see The Pars' first ever meeting against Xeneises.
"The lads were absolutely outstanding during my absence. I was feeling for the games from about 5,000 miles, and I was constantly updated by our supporters on the stands. I was trying to get a ball all the time, so as to provide an ideal extra-man beyond the distance between me and the boys. I hope there'll be more to come for us as the season resumes, we have a few tough games now and we'd like to extend our current run of form.
"Xeneises are an in-form side, as they've managed six points out of as many available in the past two games. Their confidence might've been at the low at one point, but they put some commitment in and after a somewhat dismal start to the campaign, they got Le Cafe's scalp, which really tells you all you need to know. You may argue that their second vicory - against bottom and pointless team Aston Villa Scassi - was nothing spectacular or surprising, but what I know for sure is it's going to be a very tough encounter for us"
On competition for a starting slot, following the balance the side seems to have reached during his stint in the Caribbean, Clegg declared:
"Well, the most important thing is that we win games. Whether I'm in the starting lineup, come off the bench, or get substituted at whatever stage of the game, that is none of my concern as long as the team gets the result. Nor would it be any of my concerns should we not get the results. Those decisions lay with the manager, and we're all backing him in that respect, completely entrusting him to make the right judgements and ensuing decisions.
We got to a point where we have a bunch of players who can all equally play their part, so it doesn't matter who's in the main frame and who's left to play the waiting game.
Another thing I know for sure is that the league is long enough for everyone to get a chance and a run at first team football.
I'm raring to go at the minute, and really can't wait until the ref blows his whistle on Sunday week, it's been long enough without football and I really look forward to be involved for the next game"

PROFILE - The Gaffer - Luigi Vanin

Luigi co-founded the Genoese Pars, his actual money was utilised to secure league affiliation and establishment. Rarely utilised at the back, after some turmoil, he left the club midway through the 2006/2007 season. He re-joined the club in his capacity of player during the pre-season camp in Levico Terme in September 2007, but was then handed the managerial post following the dismissal of Renato Bertoldo, and has taken the side to an unprecedented third position before the festivity break. As the league resumes on 13th January, he'll be looking to extend the current excellent run of form of his side and take it to the next step.

CLUB DEBUT (as gaffer): Dunfermline - Virtusestri 3-8
CLUB GOALS (as player): 0

PROFILE - Alberto Buccianti

Alberto joined the Pars in the capacity of head-coach after a few games of the 2006/2007 campaign, owing to a lengthy injury blight. Turned player again at the end of the same season, he's now fully committed to his playing role, and has widely demonstrated his marksman ability.
Formerly of Sangiovannese, Cavriglia and Traiana, the centre forward is definitely a great asset to the team.

CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline - Hattrick Federation 2-5
CLUB GOALS: 12
BEST GOAL: Dunfermline - Virtusestri 3-8. Customary forward goal, he disguises the ball from his marker, he quickly loses him and coolly slots home with his left at the far post. That was the mark he'd come back.

PROFILE - Alessio Di Noto

Alessio is a talented midfielder whose main characteristics lay in his fine passing and his tactical wisdom. Also an excellent shooter, Alessio used to play for Sestrese and Praese and joined the Pars at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season.
His debut sadly coincided with his first red card, but he's then recovered from that early mishap and his contribution in midfield is thoroughly felt.

CLUB DEBUT: Las Cuevas - Dunfermline 4-3
CLUB GOALS: 1
BEST GOAL: Internazionale - Dunfermline 1-5, Alessio's first strike for the club and he's not gonna score too many better ones. Great shot from long range, top corner, end of story.

PROFILE - Marco Cantelli

Marco, a very talented attacking midfielder, played for Sestrese and Praese and is currently in CFFS's fold as well. He joined the Pars late in the 2006/2007, he quickly settled in and is now universally thought to be one of the most dangerous weapons at the gaffer's disposal.
His individual technique, physical strength and thunderous shot are his most relied upon features. He's a goalscorer as well.

CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline - Hattrick Federation 2-5
CLUB GOALS: 11
BEST GOAL: Dunfermline - Never Alone Soccer 5-3. The provisional 3-2 goal probably epitomises all of his abilities. He steals the ball, he keeps going, and keeps going, and powers in with his left. Fabulous.

PROFILE - Matteo Bovalino

Matteo joined the Pars midway through the 2006/2007 campaign. The former Praese and Sestrese midfielder is an extremely talented football player, who can be deployed in all midfield positions. He's also keen to get goals, his grit and determination also being part of the picture.

CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline - Hattrick Federation 2-4
CLUB GOALS: 9
BEST GOAL: Dunfermline - WLF Genova 3-1, a thundering equaliser which kick-started the Pars' glorious comeback against the eventual league winners. Just wonderful.

PROFILE - Aldo Marletta

"Clegg" co-founded the Genoese replica of the Pars and spearheaded the midfield pack, with a look to scoring goals from time to time. Formerly of Genoa, Solferino and Praese, he can either play in the middle of the park or wide on the flanks. His long range shot is probably his most recognisable feature.

CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline - Mojito FC 1-3
CLUB GOALS: 19
BEST GOAL: Dunfermline - Kiosko Dream Team 2-3, 2006/2007, half-volley from an in depth delivery, blasting past the keeper. Customary, if it hadn't been with his left.

PROFILE - Giuseppe Buttitta

Giuseppe, a Sicilian solid centre-half, joined the Pars at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season.
The only lefty in the fold, he's a reliable source of tackles and blocks on the pitch. He can also count on a fine shot and he's a good header of the ball, which often comes handy when it comes to defending from corner kicks and set pieces.

CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline - Virtusestri 3-8
CLUB GOALS: 0

PROFILE - Davide Filippi

Davide joined the Pars during the last stint of the 2006/2007 season. Formerly of Praese, Davide can play with equally good profit as centre-half or winger. His pace and tactical wisdom appear as the most straightforward abilities, however, he is also gifted with a powerful right-footed shot and with tackling skills.

CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline - Hattrick 2-5
CLUB GOALS: 0

PROFILE - Fabio Frassinelli

Fabio Frassinelli joined the Pars midway through the 2006/2007 campaign.
Tenacious and rock-solid defender, he can also be deployed as a wingback or - but that was the case just once in the absence of a proper keeper - can play as goalie.
A former Genoa, Praese and Pontedecimo player, he's also worn the armband for the Pars a couple of times.
His customary overhead kick will find the back of the net sooner or later.

CLUB DEBUT: WLF Genova - Dunfermline 1-0
CLUB GOALS: 2
BEST GOAL: a spectacular backheel against Olimpique Sestri, 2006/2007

PROFILE - Marco Semino

Marco Semino joined the Pars at their lowest ever. Abandoned by their sponsors and struggling to put up a 7 player side to face Matchday 1 of 2007/2008 season, Marco came in and immediately imposed his colourful and motivating character to the dressing room. An experienced and reliable goalkeeper, Marco disguises his 37 years of age with unpredictable agility and composure.
CLUB DEBUT: Dunfermline-Compania Delle Indie 0-4 (by FA decision, overturning the 3-3 draw on the pitch)
CLUB GOALS: 0

2007/2008 - The Squad

DUNFERMLINE AFC 2007/2008 The Squad

2006 / 2007 - Year One for the Pars

The first season was a tough one for the newborn Genoese Pars.
Third division (Divisione C) may not be the as enthusing as the Champions League, but nowhere near as tough either.
The lads strived and thrived, only to finish the league sitting 9th, just one place below the playoff zone, but 8 points adrift from that.
Twists and turns included the dismissal of a few players, whose contribution on and off the pitch hadn't been the object of the board's appreciation.

History

Dunfermline AFC Genoa were established in September 2006, following the return of founder Aldo Marletta from a two and a half year stint in London.

The Genoese Pars are obviously named after their original "counterparts", the West Fife outfit, were initially co-founded by 2007/2008 gaffer Luigi Vanin, who provided pocket money for league affiliation and establishment.

Many characters and people have taken part into the development of what was originally conceived as a bunch of friends playing football together.

It then went far beyond that, as relevant fundings were received by a local business, only for The Pars to be sadly and ignominously abandoned by the business' owner.

It took a real effort on the part of Fornetto Genovese, a local business specialised in the production of sweets and cakes, to continue the club's activity, which is at the moment ongoing and satisfactory.
