PRIMAVERA TOURNAMENT - Update

Dunfermline have been included in the Primavera Tournament Group F, along with Genova 07, Grifone 2007 and Begato Diamante.
There are no previous encounters on record with any side so far.
Meanwhile, Alessio Scali has declared his unavailability for the competition, as he had prior commitments with another side.
For the Primavera Tournament, Dunfermline's roster should therefore look as follows:

LEONARDO PERUGINI
MARCO SEMINO

DAVIDE DUCCO
DAVIDE FILIPPI
FABIO FRASSINELLI
ALESSANDRO MERELLO

MARCO CANTELLI
MATTEO BOVALINO
FILIPPO FINOTTI
ALDO MARLETTA

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI
STEFANO ROSSI

PRIMAVERA TOURNAMENT AND MORE...

The Division B season ended on Sunday 17th May for us, as we crashed out of contention for a Division A spot next season.
It wasn't to be this term, we (and I more than anyone else, perhaps) made a number of mistakes it was hard to recover from, but it's now time to leave it all behind us and start looking at the future.

Next month, we'll be competing in the Primavera Tournament, and a few new faces will be seen in the dressing room.

Other players, on the other hand, will be released by the club.

Let's try and sow a few seeds for the 2009/10 campaign... something's on the move already.

The following players have been informed they won't be part of the club's future plans:

GIANLUCA LANATA (gk) - 3 app 0 goals
ALBERTO PITTALUGA (d) - 2 app 0 goals
ENRICO MIROGLIO (m) - 0 app 0 goals
FLAVIO LENZA (m) - 6 app 2 goals
FABIO BOCCACCIO (m) - 16 app 16 goals
MATTIA MANESCHI (m) - 15 app 8 goals
ROBERTO STRANO (m) - 1 app 0 goals
DANIELE DE MARIA (m) - 1 app 0 goals
FEDERICO GALLO (f) - 6 app 5 goals
STEFANO GANDUGLIA (f) - 1 app 1 goal

The position of Marco Semino is yet to be ascertained, as the influential goalkeeper will be probably given a proper bow during the course of the Primavera Tournament, although he's already declared his intention not to play any major part next season and, at 39 and with all the support he's given the team so far, no one will quite fault him for that.

Fausto Crosetti, the defender, has been given green light to join another side for the Primavera Tournament, but will be returning to Dunfermline for the beginning of the 09/10 campaign.

Alberto Buccianti, too, will miss out on at least part of the tournament as away on international aid duty in Haiti, for which we would like to wish him all the best.

Finally, a few players will be tested by the fully reinstated manager, Luigi Vanin, during the tournament, with a look to permanent switches ahead of next season.

The board are pleased to welcome onboard the following members of the squad:

ALESSIO SCALI (1983) is a goalkeeper who used to be within Sestrese's ranks in his best years. He'll be one of the candidates for Dunfermline's No 1 jersey next term.

ALESSANDRO MERELLO (1984), previously with Never Alone Soccer within the realm of AICS football, used to ply his trade with Sampierdarenese and Cella during his 11-a-side days.
A left-footed defender, Alessandro was also close to signing for the Pars during last summer's close season, and he's now ready to join Dunfermline.

DAVIDE DUCCO (1984) has been with Dunfermline for a while now, but on paper only, as a couple of loopholes here and there have so far prevented him from making his debut for the Scots. A quality midfielder-turned-defender, Davide is still a FIGC player as well, having just terminated the 08/09 season with Sporting Casella.

FILIPPO FINOTTI (1984), a Turin-born winger, has spent the last 3 seasons with Division C outfit Controcamper and his most recognisable feature is his powerful long-range accurate right foot.

STEFANO ROSSI (1982) is a 5-a-side and 7-a-side pacy forward, who used to play for Castelletto Solferino back in his heydays, as he even shared a couple of matches with club's captain, Aldo Marletta, two years his junior. Stefano is currently within the ranks of regional 5-a-side finalists Rovegno, and will bolster a side badly needing some pace upfront.

Therefore, Dunfermline's squad for the Primavera tournament should look as follows:

GK: Perugini, Semino, Scali
D: Filippi, Frassinelli, Ducco, Merello
M: Bovalino, Cantelli, Marletta, Finotti
F: Buccianti, Rossi
MANAGER: Vanin

ANALYSIS - Chupito / Season

LEONARDO PERUGINI did produce one of his best performances in a Pars' shirt, with a couple of fine saves, although he could do little do prevent the goals from going in. As a manager, he probably could've done better, but he never lacked commitment during the course of an unfortunate season.

MARCO SEMINO may have played his last game for the club last Sunday. A great man, a great keeper and, overall, a legend.

DAVIDE FILIPPI showed once again he's a reliable and strong defender. He's one of the pillars of the club and will remain such for the next season. He also scored a couple of goals this term.

FABIO FRASSINELLI didn't feature last night, an absence that was sorely missed and the last of a host of question marks over his, and his team's season. 5 goals to his name during the course of the term, and a lot of ground to be made up for by him and his teammates if better times are to lie ahead.

FAUSTO CROSETTI was one of a few new signings able to establish himself in the side throughout the season, scored one goal and never gave up until the very (unfortunate end).

MATTEO BOVALINO ended his season with a 7-goal tally and a performance made of sacrifice and resilience to pain, the usual fighter, who was able to overcome a couple of serious setbacks he encountered earlier this term.

FABIO BOCCACCIO notched 16 goals in as many games, although he rarely looked interested in the club as a whole, or in respecting pecking orders for that matter. Last night, he was unlucky to get injured in what will probably remain his last game for the Pars.

ALDO MARLETTA took his goal tally to 18 for the season with a potentially decisive goal last night, but it wasn't to be. Not his best season, for various reasons, but he'll keep calling the shots in the future, starting from the forthcoming Primavera tournament.

MARCO CANTELLI was sorely missed during the first half of the season, which was once again better illustrated last night, as his hat-trick took the Pars on the verge of the unlikeliest of great esapes. A monument to football, and a monument to what football should be at this level.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI scored last night in a vintage fashion, someone else shooting at him and the ball deflecting off his body and into the back of the net, that is... 17 goals for the season, not his best either, something to build on for the future, though.

LUIGI VANIN got his personal and footballing life back on track and will take charge of HIS club, starting with the Primavera tournament and then on for the next season.

Gianluca Lanata, Alberto Pittaluga, Flavio Lenza, Mattia Maneschi, Federico Gallo, Enrico Miroglio, Stefano Ganduglia, Roberto Strano and Daniele De Maria will all leave the club.
Dunfermline AFCG would like to thank them for their support during the course of the season.

DUNFERMLINE - REAL CHUPITO 5-4

Dunfermline needed to win by 3 goals in order to progress to the next round of this season's Division B.
Uncharacteristically for what their season has been, they found themselves 5 goals clear of their opponents Real Chupito after only 20 minutes in the first half, with their fate in their hands.
Very characteristically for what their season has been, though, they squandered it all either side of the interval, with Chupito pulling off a fight back which did see them lose by 5 goals to 4, enough to make sure they'd won their 3 club Promotion Group.
Vanin returned to the dugout and fielded Perugini in goal, paired Bovalino with Filippi in defence, Marletta took centre stage and was flanked by Boccaccio on the right and Cantelli on the left, with Buccianti starting upfront.
The Pars started brightly, and Buccianti was on hand to dispossess a Chupito defender before feeding the ball into the path of Cantelli, whose clearcut finish made it 1-0.
Minutes later, Cantelli dispatched a shot which was blocked away, Bovalino latched on the rebound and his shot cannonned off Buccianti's ribcage and then on into the back of the net in typical Buccianti's style.
Dunfermline were at that point one goal away of a mission:accomplished status, and they kept on pushing. Perugini had to produce a peach of a save, but the Pars struck again at the other end.
Marletta fed the ball into the path of Cantelli, the No 6 returned the ball to the captain, who cut inside and finished with composure to give his team a 3-0 advantage.
Dunfermline kept pushing on, and Real Chupito looked dismantled, even more so as Cantelli scored a 4th with his right, before Boccaccio had his own effort brilliantly saved by the keeper.
Boccaccio then got injured while trying to deliver a peach of an assist to Cantelli, with the result that neither was Marco able to score from close range, nor was Fabio able to continue his game, as he was replaced by Crosetti.
Cantelli had another crack at glory, as he swiftly turned and dispatched an unsavable left footed shot to make it 5-0 (!) to the astonishment of Dunfermline's opponents who, though, managed to pull one back before the interval with a fierce effort.

HALF TIME: Dunfermline 5, Real Chupito 1

Dunfermline had a 4 goal advantage in the game, and a two-goal one in the quest for qualification, but they somewhat failed to capitalise on such a favourable situation in the second half.
They backtracked and stayed put at the back, their energies dry and their willingness of trying and kill the tie off nowehere to be seen.
They did resist for the best part of the half, though, and even had a brilliant chance to wrap it all up as Marletta was fouled outside the box, but the ref played the advantage and the captain sent his effort narrowly wide.
Perugini produced a couple of decisive saves but had to capitulate from a deflected effort from outside the box: 5-2.
Dunfermline were still through at that stage, but the goal ignited Chupito's spirits and two further goals made it 5-4 at the final whistle.
Dunfermline down and out, time to have a fresh start.

PREVIEW - Real Chupito

If certain missions are impossible, or thought to be so, then the magnitude of the challenge ahead of Dunfermline is a more than challenging one.
Anything below a 3 goal margin win will see the Pars' quest for promotion ended, and the mountain the Scots have left themselves to climb, coupled with their constant helter-skelter in form throughout the whole season, suggests that anything may yet happen on Sunday.
With Semino and Frassinelli otherwise engaged for the game, Perugini and Crosetti are likely to be handed starting slots, with Filippi also available for selection in defence.
Marletta, Bovalino, Boccaccio and Cantelli will most likely fight it out for three berths in midfield, with Buccianti set to start upfront.
Vanin will take charge of the side for the first time since his controversial temporary departure from the club earlier this season.

ANALYSIS - A Selesiun

MARCO SEMINO was one of few good performers of a night of many lows and few highs.

DAVIDE FILIPPI, too, was in a good shape and did well until he was forced out by an injury.

FABIO FRASSINELLI remains one of the best defenders in the league, but a fighter doesn't walk off when his services are required.

FAUSTO CROSETTI did well under the circumstances, although he lost the plot at one point.

MATTEO BOVALINO lost his footing several times although he tried to make his contribution felt.

ALDO MARLETTA couldn't rise to the occasion, although the early signs were promising.

MARCO CANTELLI didn't produce one of his best performances.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI produced a good number of flick-backs in the first half, but unfortunately also denied Bovalino an all but wrapped goal.

FABIO BOCCACCIO undoubtedly has the talent to take on whatever opponent facing him. However, he plays a game of his own and he doesn't seem to link well with his teammates.

DUNFERMLINE - A SELESIUN 0-2

Dunfermline will remain a Division B club next season, unless they can produce a vintage performance and beat Real Chupito by at least a four-goal margin on Sunday 17th, that is.
A Selesiun were virtually out of the promotion frame well before kick-off, but that rightly mattered little to the Reds, who produced a sensible performance to ease past the Pars, who arguably bottomed their level of performance once more when something more inspired was required of them.
The return of Luigi Vanin to the dugout was an appreciated reinstatement, although the manager will only regain full decisional power from the next match onwards, having been left with a mountain to climb now that his team's chances to achieve a second straight promotion look all but over.

Marco Semino was pitched in goal, with the usual pair of Davide Filippi and Fabio Frassinelli composing the defence. Aldo Marletta was in the middle of the park, flanked by Matteo Bovalino and Marco Cantelli, while Alberto Buccianti completed the starting VII upfront.
A Selesiun started the brighter, but Dunfermline didn't look out of their depth at all, and seemed capable of sticking to a sort of game plan by consistently sending the ball up the park, for Buccianti to flick it back to Marletta and Cantelli, whose respective efforts were either saved by the keeper or sent wide.
When Bovalino's long range effort deflected off Buccianti and ended its run wide, it looked as though Dunfermline were on the right track but left to need a further dose of luck.
Incidentally, at the other end, Semino had to produce at least two decisive saves to keep A Selesiun out before the interval.

HALF TIME: Dunfermline 0, A Selesiun 0

Fabio Boccaccio was introduced for Buccianti, while Frassinelli called himself out and asked to be replaced by Fausto Crosetti.
Dunfermline looked stronger and about to break the deadlock any minute, but as often has been the case this season, they were punished for not playing as a team and relying on individual skill and efforts.
Therefore, when Cantelli lost possession deep inside A Selesiun's half, the opponents only had to put two passes together before their No 14 dispatched an effort from outside the box to put them in the lead.
Buccianti soon replaced Bovalino, with Boccaccio shifting to the right flank, and The Pars' No 2 indeed caused the opponents a few concerns, with his long range efforts, though, either saved or wide.
The clear cut chance he had was triggered by an inch perfect Semino clearance but, after an excellent preparation, Boccaccio slipped and was therefore forced to take his shot from a narrower angle, thus leaving the keeper with a far easier job in saving the effort.
Marletta tried his luck from a long range customary free-kick, only for the keeper to turn the ball around for a corner.
Just as Dunfermline appeared to close in on a much needed equaliser, A Selesiun broke on the counter once again, Crosetti lost his footing and handled the ball. The ensuing free-kick sealed the win for A Selesiun, with Semino left with no hope of saving the effort from No 14.
Marletta had a chance to reduce the Pars' arrears, but simply, on the day, it wasn't to be.

PREVIEW - A Selesiun

Dunfermline will be looking to beat A Selesiun for a third consecutive time this season, having disposed of their Sunday's opponents twice before during the course of the regular league campaign.
Goals from Maneschi and Ganduglia settled the tie in November, whereas it took a last gasp Buccianti winner for Dunfermline to edge a 13 goal thriller, while a further goal from the Tuscan himself, a further brace from Cantelli and a Boccaccio hat-trick marked a 7-6 win.
This time out, it's going to be either make or break for both sides, A Selesiun having lost their opening playoff game to Real Chupito by 5 goals to 1.
Only the eventual leaders of the 3-club group will authomatically progress to the next stage of the finals, and the Pars will therefore need to kickstart their promotion quest with a win, and the wider the margin the better, before facing Chupito in the showdown scheduled to take place a week on Sunday.

The Pars will be at full strength, with both Semino and Perugini available for the goalkeeping post, while the full defensive package will be raring to go and two shirts will be assigned amongst Frassinelli, Filippi and Crosetti.
In midfield, Cantelli, Bovalino, Marletta and Boccaccio will fight it out for three berths, while Buccianti is widely expected to be given the nod upfront.
