ANALYSIS - Granarolo Arci

MARCO SEMINO produced a save-of-the-season-candidate towards the end of the first half, but was unfortunately let down by his defence on many other occasions.

DAVIDE FILIPPI was one of the best Pars on the pitch, although his handling of the ball allowed the opponents to make it 4-2 from the ensuing free-kick.

FABIO FRASSINELLI looks like the shadow of his best self these days. He still has the potential to be the best defender in the league, though.

FAUSTO CROSETTI was unfortunate as he was cheaply dispossessed on the halfway line on the 3-2 goal occasion.

MATTIA MANESCHI opened the scoring and tried to spice things up, to no avail unfortunately.

MATTEO BOVALINO is the in-form man in the squad at the minute. Yet another goal, a screamer this time around, unfortunately useless.

FABIO BOCCACCIO hit the post late on, but sometimes he struggles to understand he's surrounded by another 6 white shirts, his team-mates apparently...

MARCO CANTELLI missed a good chance to equalise, before giving the Pars hope with a stoppage time goal.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI couldn't keep the ball up the park, however he did produce a fine delivery for Cantelli, although the chance went begging.

GRANAROLO ARCI - DUNFERMLINE 4-3

Perhaps Dunfermline don't want to go up after all, especially considering the huge amount of favours they're doing to their direct opponents.
With Anni Settanta heavily hammered at the hands of WLF Genova, all Dunfermline required to move up to third was a draw away to Granarolo Arci.
Well, The Pars put up a far-from-decent performance, and deservedly lost by 4 goals to 3 to revive their opponents' hope of a playoff berth.
Perugini fielded Semino in goal, with Frassinelli and Filippi handed the two slots in defence. Bovalino replaced banned captain Marletta in the middle of the park, and was flanked by Maneschi and Boccaccio, with Cantelli completing the starting VII upfront.
Granarolo looked far more willing to cause damage in the early exchanges, however Dunfermline did take the lead with their first attempt, as Cantelli played a nice laid ball into the path of Maneschi who made no mistake from outside the box, the ball bouncing off the internal face of the upright before going into the net.
Scoreline-wise, that was right the start the Pars required, however their form has been faltering of late and Granarolo Arci were allowed back into the game, as some poor defending proved costly on a couple of occasion, the score being overturned to 2-1 Granarolo in the blink of an eye.
Boccaccio was despatched upfront with Cantelli shifting to the left wing, but chances remained hard to come by until Boccaccio himself provided Bovalino with a fine pass, which left the No 11 with a great chance, which he took indeed with a marvellous right-footed half volley into the top corner.
Before the ref blew the half-time whistle, Semino did well to keep a well taken effort out.

HALF TIME: Granarolo Arci 2, Dunfermline 2

Proceedings were resumed and Buccianti was introduced for Boccaccio, while Crosetti stepped in for Frassinelli, who had thoroughly looked out of sorts in the first half.
Dunfermline tried to send their charges forward, but a cheap mistake from Crosetti proved costly, as he was dispossessed on the half-way line and Granarolo took advantage netting their third with a simple two-pass move.
Cantelli had a great chance to equalise soon afterwards, following a great knock back by Buccianti, but the No 6 squared the ball right at the goalkeeper, and Dunfermline were punished again at the other hand, as Filippi handled outside the box, with the ensuing free-kick resulting in the 4-2 goal after the ball cannonned off the wall.
Game over, or thereabouts, even though Dunfermline did pull one back deep in stoppage time, as Cantelli took advantage of Granarolo's keeper fumbling the ball from a Boccaccio shot and lashed home.
Dunfermline even had a chance to equalise well beyond the end of injury time, but Boccaccio's soft effort from the halfway line hit the post before the ref blew the final whistle.

BAUDELAIRE

DUNFERMLINE 2008/2009

PREVIEW - Granarolo Arci

Dunfermline may be forgiven for thinking they all but blew their chances to make the top-two in their league group following the slip ups against Anni Settanta and WLF Genova, two games out of which they only managed one point before going back to winning ways against Zena Caput Mundi.
In fact, had they taken maximum points from those ties, The Pars would now find themselves sitting second, with Massacroni having surprisingly lost to A Selesiun on Monday night.
Regrets are no good to any team, though, so all Dunfermline need to do now is to regroup and try to get 9 points from their remaining 3 regular season fixtures, including the crunching match against Massacroni a week on Sunday, and see where that'll take them, knowing well that in the worst case scenario they'll sit 4th come mid-April, when the finals will kick-start.

For Sunday's tie against Granarolo Arci, Dunfermline will be without captain Aldo Marletta, who will serve a one-match-ban following his 3rd caution of the season, while goalkeeper Marco Semino will be given a rest. Marco Cantelli's involvement, finally, is yet to be verified as he may be away on working duties.

The squad should therefore look like the following

G: 1 Marco Semino
D: 8 Davide Filippi, 10 Fabio Frassinelli, 17 Fausto Crosetti
M: 2 Fabio Boccaccio, (6 Marco Cantelli), 11 Matteo Bovalino, 20 Mattia Maneschi
F: 9 Alberto Buccianti

MANAGER: Leonardo Perugini
NOT INVOLVED: Marco Semino, Gianluca Lanata; Alberto Pittaluga; Aldo Marletta (ban), Roberto Strano, Daniele De Maria, Enrico Miroglio, Davide Ducco, Flavio Lenza; Stefano Ganduglia, Federico Gallo

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS - The only time Dunfermline and Granarolo Arci have locked horns before, it was when the Pars emerged 3-0 victors back in December 2008. A hat-trick marked Boccaccio's debut with the Scots.

2008/2009: Dunfermline - Granarolo Arci 3-0 (Boccaccio 3)

ANALYSIS - Zena Caput Mundi

MARCO SEMINO was left to deal with too many opponents in front of him towards the end of the game.

FAUSTO CROSETTI produced a miracle of a block towards the end of the first half, denying the opponents a sure goal. He was brilliant throughout.

DAVIDE FILIPPI did fairly well in the first half, and when he was withdrawn the game started slipping out of Dunfermline's clasp.

FABIO FRASSINELLI was not at his best, but he still produced a couple of decisive heading clearances.

MATTIA MANESCHI showed a man-of-the match performance and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

ALDO MARLETTA combined beautifully with Cantelli to score the goal of the night, but was harshly cautioned and he'll therefore miss out on the next game through suspension.

FABIO BOCCACCIO was once again on song, he opened the scoring and helped his side bury the game with an easy finish.

MATTEO BOVALINO is back to his best. Two goals and the usual amount of runs and recoveries.

MARCO CANTELLI gave Dunfermline something they hadn't had in the previous games, such as a lot of depth upfront. He also scored the 2-0 goal and had his say on Boccaccio's opener as well.

DUNFERMLINE - ZENA CAPUT MUNDI 6-5

Dunfermline went back to winning ways after edging an 11 goal thriller against second-bottom Zena Caput Mundi, although the scoreline could've been much more emphatic had the Pars not allowed the visitors back in the game after leading by 6 goals to 1.
Perugini deployed Marco Semino in goal and Davide Filippi and Fausto Crosetti in defence, while Aldo Marletta led his side from the middle of the park, flanked by Mattia Maneschi on the right and Fabio Boccaccio on the left, with Marco Cantelli completing the starting VII upfront.
Dunfermline weren't quick off the blocks at all, and they were lucky to escape unscathed following a couple of attacks brought forward by Zena.
They were lucky, though, as Boccaccio coolly took a free-kick from a couple of yards ahead of the halfway line, with the ball cannonning off a couple of players before going into the net to make it 1-0.
Marletta had a chance but his shot was blocked and deflected out for a corner, before Boccaccio turned provider gifting a peach of a ball to Cantelli, who fired home to make it 2-0.
Maneschi appeared inspired throughout and his persistence was vital as he kept hold of the ball, then lost it for a second, but he robbed it off the keeper leaving Boccaccio with nothing to do but to score the 3-0 goal into an empty net.

HALF TIME: Dunfermline 3, Zena Caput Mundi 0

Proceedings were resumed with Matteo Bovalino on the pitch for Boccaccio, but Zena Caput Mundi managed to reduce their arrears at 3-1.
Marletta sent a shot wide of the upright, but he atoned for that as he intercepted a Crosetti clearance, juggled the ball on his thigh a couple of times before unleashing Cantelli, who beautifully returned the ball to the captain, who made it 4-1 with a well taken sweet effort.
At that point, Dunfermline started looking brighter and brighter, and Fabio Frassinelli was introduced for Filippi.
Marletta quickly took a free-kick, amazing the opponents' defence and releasing Bovalino into space, the No 11 shot making it 5-1.
Semino didn't have too much to do at the other hand, and Marletta once again stepped up to recover a ball in midfield, he took the ball forward before being downed just outside the box. Maneschi brilliantly took the ensuing free-kick, the ball bouncing off the crossbar before falling kind for Bovalino's header, his second goal of the game and Dunfermline's 6th.
Just as the game looked over, the Pars allowed the aggressive visitors back in the game, and Zena helped themselves to 4 late goals which resulted in the final scoreline reading 6-5.

PREVIEW - Zena Caput Mundi

When the sides met in reverse fixtures back in December 2008, the game reached its worst possible climax as a few punches flew in amidst a preposterous brawl sparked by Zena CM's players for what they describes as an abusive gesture by Matteo Bovalino, who ended up paying over the odds for such a mishap, with a two game ban.
That game also market Daniele De Maria's debut, and thus far his only appearance for the club, but the left winger was also sent off for a debatable elbowing of an opponent.
Incidentally, Dunfermline mauled Zena Caput Mundi by 4 goals to 1 on that occasion, with Alberto Buccianti collecting a wonderful hat-trick and Aldo Marletta adding to the scoreline.
Dunfermline currently sit fourth in the league table, level on points but with a deficit in direct encounters with Anni Settanta, whereas Zena are second bottom albeit only 2 points adrift of the playoff zone.

Manager Leonardo Perugini is likely to be able to count once again on full options for Sunday's tie, with Marco Semino expected to soldier on in goal and Davide Filippi, Fabio Frassinelli and Fausto Crosetti all available in defence.
In midfield, Mattia Maneschi should return to the fold after sitting out the WLF game, adding his name to those of Aldo Marletta, Fabio Boccaccio, Marco Cantelli and Matteo Bovalino for selection.
Alberto Buccianti will most probably be involved just as usual.

ANALYSIS - WLF Genova

MARCO SEMINO announced his retirement from the club after the game. He'll be sorely missed next season, although tonight's performance found him on the back foot on the 2-1 goal occasion.

FABIO FRASSINELLI was far from his best, caught in the middle on the 3-1 goal occasion.

DAVIDE FILIPPI was one of the best Pars on the pitch and even managed to score the winner-to-be, that never was unfortunately...

FAUSTO CROSETTI helped tighten his defence when he was introduced in the second half.

MATTEO BOVALINO, as opposed to certain teammates of his, is nearing his return to his best form game after game, and his goal only confirmed that theory.

ALDO MARLETTA appeared on song and dictated the tempo of the game well in the initial stages of the game, even managing an opener with his most characteristic feat, a long range goal.

FABIO BOCCACCIO played a wonderful game, he hit the post and had his say on at least two of Dunfermline's goals.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI was unfortunately left to deal with the whole WLF defensive package, and was withdrawn in the interval as a result of his solitude upfront.

MARCO CANTELLI brought the usual quality to the game, scored an equaliser and fought during the whole second half.

WLF GENOVA - DUNFERMLINE 4-4

Dunfermline slipped to fourth following a hard fought draw against WLF Genova, thus signalling the virtual end of their top-two chase and, broadly, a dip in form which would raise a few eyebrows ahead of the playoffs.
Perugini deployed Semino in goal, with Frassinelli and Filippi in defence, while Marletta retained his spot in the middle of the park, flanked by Bovalino and Boccaccio, and Buccianti completed the starting VII upfront.
Dunfermline had the better of the early exchanges and Boccaccio took a series of consecutive corners. As a result, Marletta volleyed from outside the box, with WLF keeper conceding another corner-kick to deny him. From the ensuing one, though, a poor heading clearance let the ball fall kindly to Marletta, who half-volleyed home to establish the Pars in the lead.
Dunfermline looked on song with Marletta dictating the tempo in the game and Filippi often bringing the ball up the park, but just when it looked they were in full control of the game, the usual moment(s) of madness struck and WLF found themselves 3-1 up before half-time, the first two goals coming from as many free-kicks, while the third was the result of a well concocted move and a fine layback pass which left their striker free to wrongfoot Semino from close range.
Boccaccio had hit the post in the process, but it appeared too little.

HALF TIME: WLF Genova 3, Dunfermline 1

Cantelli was introduced for Buccianti and Crosetti replaced Frassinelli, with Dunfermline desperately trying to send their charges forward for an unlikely onslaught.
The initial signs of hope for an incredible comeback materialised as Cantelli swiftly controlled a Semino clearance and rounded his marker, but his shot went well wide of the upright.
Cantelli was unlucky once again a few minutes later, but his shot was poorly parried by WLF keeper and the ball fell kindly to Bovalino who shot home with a virtually open goal to reduce Dunfermline's arrears.
Boccaccio caused havoc down the right flank and one of his shots was once again parried by the opponents' goalkeeper, with the ball reaching Cantelli who hit it first time to equalise with still 10 minutes or so left.
WLF, who had hit the woodwork during the course of the first half, were spared as a magnificent move involving Marletta, Cantelli and Boccaccio found its inspired climax with the No 2's excellent through ball, which was met by Bovalino who only managed to hit the post himself.
Bovalino had another chance that was kept out by the keeper, although the ensuing corner-kick brought yet another goal, as Filippi was quick to react for his second goal of the season.
With their odd comeback completed at 4-3 up, Dunfermline once again appeared in full control of the game, until a poor referee awarded the host a non-exixtent free kick, which ended up with a square pass poorly defended and the ball finding its way on to the back of the net to add to Dunfermline's worries.

PREVIEW - WLF GENOVA

After losing to Anni Settanta last Sunday, Dunfermline will be looking to atone for such a slip-up by winning at their once home ground of San Desiderio against WLF, in what will be the fourth-ever encounter between the sides.
WLF currently sit 5th in the group table, 2 positions below Dunfermline and 6 points adrift of them, while The Pars themselves will try to revive their faint top-two hopes, as Moranego are now 4 points clear, just one behind table-toppers Massacroni.
5 games to go and Dunfermline's fixture schedule doesn't appear any easy, as encounters against Zena Caput Mundi, Granarolo and Massacroni will come up next before the regular season final game against bottom side Santorre.

Manager Leonardo Perugini has already issued his squad for the game as follows:

1 Marco Semino
2 Fabio Boccaccio
5 Aldo Marletta

ANALYSIS - Anni Settanta

LEONARDO PERUGINI made a fantastic save with the scores tied at 1-1. Unfortunately, he wasn't as lucky on the 2-1 goal occasion.

FAUSTO CROSETTI did fairly well in the first half, holding no responsibilities for the visitors' opener.

MATTEO BOVALINO may have established himself as a defence regular, and he did well at the back, although his preferred position is still in midfield.

DAVIDE FILIPPI was one of the best Pars on the pitch, and even went close to scoring a stunner.

MATTIA MANESCHI looked out of his depth for much of the 25 minutes he was given.

FABIO BOCCACCIO heavily contributed to Dunfermline's equalising goal and also went close with a well taken free-kick.

ALDO MARLETTA tried to give his teammates some sort of order, which he managed to, sporadically. Was denied by Cevasco twice.

MARCO CANTELLI wasn't at his best, but still caused havoc in the opponents' defence.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI played a pivotal part in the equalising goal, but other than that he failed to keep the ball up the park.

DUNFERMLINE - ANNI SETTANTA 1-2

Dunfermline saw their unbeaten run, and virtually any hope of making the top-two, brought to an abrupt end at the hands of Anni Settanta, who had been the last side able to beat them earlier this season and have now closed the gap from The Pars to only 2 points.
Fabio Frassinelli pulled out when already at the pitch owing to a flu, therefore Leonardo Perugini, who deployed himself in goal, introduced Fausto Crosetti in defence alongside Matteo Bovalino.
Mattia Maneschi was handed a starting berth on the right flank, with Aldo Marletta in the middle of the park and Marco Cantelli completing the midfield pack.
Alberto Buccianti, as usual, played the lone striker role.
The Pars tried to send their charges forward and they had a couple of half-chances, before Cevasco denied Marletta on two occasions from as many free-kicks, while Cantelli also went close with at least one incisive initiative.
The visitors took the lead, though, from a long range effort which cannonned off Bovalino's thigh, thus wrongfooting Perugini.
Dunfermline had another chance with Buccianti, who was well controlled by the Cevasco when just about to fire home.

HALF TIME: Dunfermline 0, Anni Settanta 1

Fabio Boccaccio was introduced for Maneschi and Davide Filippi replaced Crosetti at the beginning of the second half.
Minutes into the second period, Buccianti flicked on the ball towards Boccaccio, who played a square ball which was woefully intercepted by Tucci, the AS's skipper, whose touch drove the ball just past Cevasco to give Dunfermline a deserved equaliser.
After such a fluke, though, the lads failed to build on a more comfortable scoreline and often looked out of sorts with the ball at their feet.
Anni Settanta took the lead once again as a shot from outside the box was poory parried by Perugini and the ball fell kindly to one of the AS forwards who fired home.
Perugini, who had previously pulled off a prodigious save to deny the opponents, didn't make any further changes.
Boccaccio had his own chance from a well taken free-kick, but Cevasco was once again magnificent in denying him, as well as he was from a halfway effort by Filippi, who would've scored a goal of the season candidate had his shot not found the visitors' keeper's gloves.
The final onslaught didn't produce much and the game encountered its end after 3 minutes of stoppage time.

PREVIEW - Anni Settanta

A few rules are likely to be drafted within Dunfermline Athletic Football Club over the next few days, so as to avoid any recurrences of the ill-fated circumstances that surrounded the encounter against Moranego, prior to which at least 12 members of the squad had declared themselves available for the tie, the number of player then slowly getting trimmed to a minimum 7 with no notice of absence received from Flavio Lenza and a short one coming from Maneschi.
That being said, the game was duly won by The Pars, which will surely help clear-the-air talks due tonight between club captain Aldo Marletta and manager Leonardo Perugini.
Perugini himself could well be deployed in goal in the vital game against Anni Settanta on Sunday, as Marco Semino will be otherwise engaged and it is unclear whether Marco Franzone, formerly of Praese and Sestrese, might be a serious candidate for a shock signing aimed at providing cover for the club's No 1 goalkeeper until the end of the season, whenever required.
In defence, Davide Filippi's fitness shall be verified following his minor street accident which kept him out of the Moranego game, whilst both Fabio Frassinelli and Fausto Crosetti both delivered excellent performances in that game and will be surely involved.
In the middle of the park, Matteo Bovalino should return to the fold following his exclusion last Sunday, and will be picked alongside Aldo Marletta, Fabio Boccaccio and Marco Cantelli, the involvement of Flavio Lenza and Mattia Maneschi still under scrutiny following their last minute absences against Moranego.
Upfront, the usual reassuring presence of Alberto Buccianti will dominate the scene.

The only previous encounter between the sides date back to earlier this season, as The Pars were taught a harsh lesson, as they were overpowered by 6 goals to 3 despite taking an early lead through Marletta. Crosetti scored his first, and thus far only, goal for the club to reduce Dunfermline's arrears, before Maneschi delivered a peach of a goal which only proved mere consolation.
Other time, other story, as Dunfermline are now unbeaten in 9 and a win on Sunday, together with a draw or a Massacroni victory over Moranego would see The Pars break into the top two for the first time this season.

ANALYSIS - Moranego

MARCO SEMINO marked his 30th club appearance with at least two crucial saves either side of the interval.

FAUSTO CROSETTI may be deemed partly at fault for the 2-2 goal, but the 3-2 assist is all his and he's now fully established himself as a first team regular.

FABIO FRASSINELLI scored one of the most important goals of the season, his 10th for the club on the day of his 50th club appearance.

ALDO MARLETTA had his game kicked on in the second half as he was deployed in his natural central midfield position, which is what he does best

FABIO BOCCACCIO, on the other hand, was given more space to run into as he was handed the right flank role in the second period.

MARCO CANTELLI wasn't at his best and probably ill. Even so, he managed to find a crucial goal with some luck.

ALBERTO BUCCIANTI was left to deal with the whole of the opponents' defence as usual. He scored a vital goal and heavily contributed to his side's display in the second half.

MORANEGO - DUNFERMLINE 2-3

Dunfermline, Dunfermline, Dunfermline...
Fabio Frassinelli scored a stoppage time winner to hand The Pars the most precious of wins in a tense and up tempo game.
Much had been made midweek about the abundance of selection at the disposal of gaffer Leonardo Perugini, but as often is the case this season, Dunfermline were left with only 7 players available, as Matteo Bovalino wasn't involved while Mattia Maneschi and Flavio Lenza made themselves unavailable without notice.
Therefore, Perugini fielded Marco Semino in goal, the goalkeeper thus marking his 30th appearance for the club. Fausto Crosetti and 50-time Par Fabio Frassinelli were deployed in defence, while Aldo Marletta, on his 60th club appearance, was fielded on the right flank, with Fabio Boccaccio in the middle of the park and Marco Cantelli completing the midfield pack. Alberto Buccianti played the lone striker role upfront.

Moranego had the better of the early exchanges, their game plan sticking to the well known figure of Poggi who brilliantly orchestrated his teammates' attacks.
Dunfermline, on the other hand, looked out of place and out of sorts but still managed to block a few attacks, Semino coming to their rescue at least once.
The hosts took the lead, though, as a Dassori sidefooted effort found the back of the net towards the end of the first period.
Dunfermline didn't do much at all in the first half, and could consider themselves lucky to have conceded only one goal.

HALF TIME: Moranego 1, Dunfermline 0

Perugini swapped Marletta with Boccaccio, thus handing both players a chance to play in their natural positions. The silver lining for such move came pretty early, with Dunfermline looking more at ease and more convinced while bringing the ball up the pitch.
Marletta was denied twice from as many free-kicks, as Buccianti inadvertedly blocked his shot and a Moranego defender did the same on another occasion. Boccaccio, too, had a couple of brilliant free-kicks greatly saved by Moranego's keeper.
Dunfermline did eventually equalise, though, as a shot by Cantelli was beautifully intercepted bt Buccianti's right-foot, whose deflection proved lethal for the opponents' keeper.
The Pars started to believe they could make the game theirs, which they went close to do as Marletta latched onto a loose ball and fired a shot which wasn't properly cleared by the keeper, the ball cannonning off Cantelli's right knee before establishing the lads in the lead at 2-1.
2 minutes of stoppage time were awarded by referee Gabriele, and a poor clearance from Crosetti and Frassinelli allowed Poggi to make it 2-2 from close range.
Just as the game was looming towards an overall fair draw, Crosetti did the best thing in his game by anticipating Taddeo and sending the ball forwards towards Frassinelli, whose shot on the turn simply proved too hot to handle for Moranego's keeper and gifted Dunfermline 3 vital points.
