PLAYER REVIEW - #11 Matteo Bovalino

AICS football brims with talented players. A rarer case is to see those players giving their team their all, week in week out, with the level of commitment shown by Matteo Bovalino throughout the 2007/2008 promotion winning season.
Albeit gifted with a natural and effortless technique, he rose to the spotlight for his continuous runs and the cover he provided his defense with, rather than for his bits of trickery which always were at the forefront of his performances.
More, Bovalino was the only Dunfermline player to take part in every single one of the games played by The Pars during the campaign.
His and the club's first goal of the term came in the disgraceful 3-8 defeat at the hands of Virtusestri in the Liguria Cup, an early opener which was unfortunately followed by a freescoring performance on the part of the winning side.
A great performance against Compagnia delle Indie was followed by his first league goal, a temporary 2-2 goal in the 3-4 defeat by Las Cuevas, from close range from a neat delivery by Di Noto.
He ran and ran some more in the first victorious match of the season, a 5-2 disposal of New Reds, before he added to his goal tally courtesy of a brace against minnows Aston Villa Scassi, the final scoreline reading 9-2.
Yet another brilliant game in the defeat of Never Alone Soccer, and yet another goal in the 5-1 win over Internazionale before the Christmas break.
Not on target in the 9-1 thumping of Xeneixes in mid-January, he produced a stunning performance against Amici di Berto, helping his side collect a priceless 4-1 away win.
Along came Sampierdarena, and he was unfortunate not to score, but once again he proved his mettle, as he did the following week, as Dunfermline came out worthy victors away to Le Café.
The following Sunday, he scored his arguably best goal of the season, as an in depth delivery from Borreani resulted in Matteo controlling the ball with his right, before sweetly placing it past the keeper on the volley, thus making it 3-0 before the interval, the final score reading 4-2.
Yet another goal in the 6-3 thrashing of Compagnia delle Indie, then another valuable contribution against Las Cuevas, in a game The Pars won 4-1.
His passing ability, skills, but yet again more importantly the amount of miles he covered, were instrumental in the 4-2 defeat of New Reds, and he gathered some more personal glory by adding another two goals to his season as Dunfermline slaughtered Aston Villa Scassi by 9 goals to 1.
In that occasion, he was deployed upfront in the second half, and he scored from a volley, before sealing the early-whistle win with a marvellous run and finish, an unstoppable shot that ended its run in the top right corner.
The 13 win in a row string came to an end after that game, as Never Alone produced a great effort to hold The Pars to a 3-3 draw, a game in which Bovalino was one of a few good performers within the Scots' fold, scoring a provisional 2-2 leveller with a sweet half-volley from a Di Noto corner kick.
No goals for him, but the usual tireless work in the 9-3 thumping of Internazionale, before Marco Cantelli stole the spotlight to teammates and opponents, scoring all 5 goals in the troublesome win over Xeneixes the following week.
Along came Berto, and a Buccianti opener was soon overturned by 6 goals from the visitors, to give Dunfermline the hardest time of the season, but Matteo once again refused to raise white flag and pulled one back at the death, a mere consolation at 2-6 but a further proof of his fighting spirit.
The Fifers were quick to react, though, and they bounced back in quite some style by defeating Sampierdarena the following week, before two further wins over Le Café and Borussia finally sealed Dunfermline's status as the league group winners.
At the playoff stage, The Pars' saga continued, and so did Matteo's, with back-to-back glorious performances against Moro Populars and Massacroni, either side of the most unjust of defeats at the hands of Hellas Begato.
Dunfermline sat second at the end of the group stage, which spelt direct qualification to the quarter finals, a tie destiny set up to be yet another meeting with season rivals Berto.
Well, with no substitutions available for that game, the lads thrived and put up some heroics, Matteo, as usual, being no exception, as he provided the neatest of deliveries for Marletta's header, the opener.
He constantly provided the team's back-pack with much needed cover, ran, ran and ran some more, contextually showing a wide range of brilliant passes and going close to scoring himself with a long range effort Berto's keeper was good to keep out.
Dunfermline triumphed to promotion courtesy of a 5-3 win, before being kicked out at the semifinal stage at the hands of Alliance Utd.
Once again, Bovalino was one of the best players on the pitch, as he fed Buccianti a marvellous through ball and the Tuscan striker put the Pars in the lead, provisionally though, as Alliance equalised and then went on to collect a 3-2 win.
11 goals to his name, and if there were any mileage stats, he'd probably be on top of them.
One of the longest serving members of the squad, a talented midfielder and, more importantly, an excellent team player, Matteo will be one of the pillars ahead of another bid for promotion next term.

Il panorama calcistico AICS abbonda di giocatori di talento. Un caso più raro è vedere tali giocatori dare tutto per la propria squadra, settimana dopo settimana, col livello di dedizione mostrato da Matteo Bovalino nel corso della stagione della promozione 2007/2008.
Nonostante sia dotato di una naturale tecnica individuale, Matteo emerge per la sua corsa continua e per la copertura che fornisce alla difesa, piuttosto che per i suoi giochi di prestigio che, comunque, sono sempre stati al centro delle sue prestazioni.
Inoltre, Bovalino è stato l'unico giocatore del Dunfermline ad aver preso parte ad ogni incontro disputato dai Pars nella stagione.
Il suo goal è anche il primo del club, nella sconfitta disgraziata, per 8-3, contro il Virtusestri nella Coppa Liguria, un goal che apre le marcature ma che purtroppo viene seguito da una valanga di goals da parte degli avversari.
Una grande prestazione contro la Compagnia delle Indie è seguita dal primo goal in campionato, quello del provvisorio 2-2 nella sconfitta per 4-3, maturata contro Las Cuevas, con una conclusione ravvicinata su preciso assist di Di Noto.
Corre tantissimo nella prima vittoria stagionale, 5-2 sui New Reds, prima di segnare una doppietta nel 9-2 sull'Aston Villa Scassi.
Ancora una partita brillante nella vittoria sui Never Alone, e ancora un goal in quella per 5-1 sull'Internazionale prima delle festività natalizie.
Non va a segno nel 9-1 che il Dunfermline infligge agli Xeneixes a metà gennaio, ma gioca in maniera incredibile contro gli Amici di Berto, aiutando la squadra a raccogliere una preziosissima vittroria per 4-1.
Arriva il Sampierdarena, ed è sfortunato a non segnare, ma ancora una volta prova il suo valore, così come fa la settimana seguente, con il Dunfermline che supera Le Café in trasferta.
La domenica che segue, segna forse il suo più bel goal stagionale, contro il Borussia, quando Borreani lo lancia in profondità, lui controlla e, tutto al volo, piazza la palla alle spalle del portiere, in girata spalle alla porta, per il 3-0 prima dell'intervallo, risultato finale poi 4-2.
Ancora sul tabellino marcatori nel 6-3 sulla Compagnia delle Indie, e ancora un ottimo contributo nella vittoria per 4-2 sui New Reds.
Ulteriore gloria personale, con un'altra doppietta, nel massacro contro l'Aston Villa Scassi.
In quell'occasione, viene impiegato di punta nel secondo tempo, e lui risponde con un goal al volo, ed uno in cui si beve la difesa avversaria prima di scagliare un destro all'incrocio dei pali, suggellando la fine della partita sul 9-1.
La striscia di 13 vittorie di fila si interrompe contro i Never Alone, che ottengono un pareggio per 3-3, una partita in cui Bovalino risulta essere uno dei pochi a fornire una buona prestazione, andando a segno con un tiro in controbalzo da azione d'angolo per il provvisorio 2-2.
Niente goal per lui, ma il solito instancabile lavoro, nel 9-3 col quale il Dunfermline si sbarazza dell'Internazionale, poi è Cantelli a rubare la scena a compagni ed avversari ed a segnare tutti e 5 i goals nella difficilissima vittoria sugli Xeneixes la settimana seguente.
Arriva Berto, e il goal che apre le danze, di Buccianti, viene presto ribaltato da 6 reti degli ospiti, che impartiscono la più dura lezione stagionali agli Scozzesi, ebbene Bovalino è anche in quell'occasione l'ultimo ad arrendersi, riuscendo anche a segnare il goal della consolazione, 2-6, ulteriore prova dello spirito da lottatore che lo anima.
I Fifers si riprendono presto, e tornano in grande stile, battendo il Sampierdarena, prima che due ulteriori affermazioni, contro Le Café e il Borussia, sigillino la vittoria del campionato.
Durante i playoff, continua la saga dei Pars, così come quella di Matteo, con prestazioni gloriose una di seguito all'altra, contro Moro Populars e Massacroni, inframezzate dalla più ingiusta delle sconfitte contro l'Hellas Begato.
Il Dunfermline termina il raggruppamento al secondo posto, il che significa qualificazione diretta ai quarti di finale, con il destino che riserva un ulteriore incontro con Berto, rivali di tutta una stagione.
Ebbene, senza sostituzioni a disposizione per quella partita, i ragazzi producono ancora una volta una prestazione da ricordare e Matteo, come al solito, non fa eccezione, e comincia la sua partita fornendo l'assist vincente per la zuccata di Marletta, 1-0.
Corre tantissimo e copre la difesa brillantemente, mostrando anche una varietà di passaggi e un'ottima visione di gioco. Va anche vicino al goal nel primo tempo, con un tiro dalla lunga distanza che il portiere degli Amici respinge.
Il Dunfermline trionfa, raggiunge la promozione, grazie al 5-3 finale, ma si arrende all'Alliance Utd in semifinale.
Ancora una volta, Bovalino è uno dei migliori in campo, e sforna un assist da applausi per Buccianti, che porta temporaneamente in vantaggio i Pars sul 2-1, prima che la rimonta dell'Alliance rovesci il punteggio sul 3-2 finale.
11 goals stagionali, e se ci fossero statistiche sulle miglia percorse, sarebbe probabilmente in testa.
Uno dei "vecchi" della squadra, un centrocampista di talento e, cosa ancora più importante, un giocatore di squadra, Matteo sarà uno dei pilastri della prossima stagione, che vedrà come obiettivo un'altra promozione.

PLAYER REVIEW - #10 Fabio Frassinelli

Leadership is paramount in football. When a gaffer can count on two or three influential players, also gifted with quality applicable to their respective positions on the pitch, his job is easier all of the sudden.
Fabio Frassinelli is one of the vets at Dunfermline, one of the few current players to have started his Pars career in the 2006/2007 season.
He's also worn the armband occasionally, and he's the second longest serving member of the squad, and he's quality.
His 2007/2008 campaign got underway with a dismal 8-3 defeat at the hands of Virtusestri in the Liguria Cup, a start to the season which was far from promising.
He missed out on the league opening match through illness, and was involved in the following 4-3 defeat by Las Cuevas.
From then on, his and his team's moments of glory outnumbered moments of crisis, and Fabio fully played his part on and off the pitch.
He was deployed in goal, owing to the absence of a recognised keeper, and Dunfermline attained the first win of the season, against New Reds Ponente, with a 5-2 scoreline.
Reports on that game illustrated that Frassi, whose brother's a REAL goalkeeper, was up to the task and produced a number of vital saves.
One week later, he scored his first goal of the season, with a header that sealed a 9-2 win away to minnows Aston Villa Scassi.
A great performance in the derby rival victory over Never Alone followed, before a brilliant run culminated with a fine delivery for Buccianti in the 5-1 win over Internazionale.
After the Christmas break, he scored yet another one, the final goal in the 9-1 disposal of Xeneixes, a performance which was closely followed by arguably his best match of the season, against Amici di Berto.
Berto were kept at bay and Dunfermline eased past them by 4 goals to 1, managing just one goal, as a result of a free-kick Steiner took beautifully. In other words, Fabio and Filippi prevented their hitherto freescoring opponents from putting the ball past the keeper from open play, quite something.
A 2-2 draw, and a contextual brilliant game, came against Sampierdarena, before AICS ruled for that scoreline to be quashed and converted into a 4-0 win.
Along came Le Café, and Dunfermline beat them 6-5, one of the goals coming from Frassi himself, from a corner kick set piece, a loose ball he was able to latch on to provisionally level things up at 4-4.
Dunfermline then went on to defeat Borussia by 4 goals to 3, before he missed out on Matchday 12, a 6-3 win away to Compagnia delle Indie, through a knee injury.
The following week, the gaffer failed to turn up for the 4-1 defeat of Las Cuevas, and Fabio took over as stand-in manager, also producing one of his best performances of the season, talking about leadership.
The Pars continued on a seemingly unstoppable string of wins on the bounce, against New Reds (4-2) and Aston Villa (9-1), before such run encountered an abrupt end when the lads least expected it, on the back of their trip to Scotland, in the derby rival against Never Alone, when the they could only salvage a point, after playing out a 3-3 draw.
Dunfermline were swiftly back to winning ways, as they defeated Internazionale by 9 goals to 3, and even though they had to fight more than they'd expected, they also got past Xeneixes at the death (5-4).
Fabio was not in his best shape, as well as another handful of team-mates, and that fully showed in the collective collapsing that occurred as Berto romped to a 6-2 win that left Fabio, and the team, in disarray.
Fortunately, Lady Luck smiled on the lads again shortly after that, the guys got themselves back on track and produced the sweetest of comebacks to secure a spot in the Excellence Playoff realm, beating Sampierdarena by 2 goals to 1, as Frassinelli produced one of his finest performances while denying eventual league topscorer Andrea Ferrea several times.
A 5-4 win against Le Café followed, before the regular season came to an end with a 4-3 victory away to Borussia, which sealed Dunfermline's top spot in the league group, together with an enviable defensive record, having conceded the fewest goals in the whole Division C Group B fold.
Dunfermline then entered the Excellence Playoffs as favourites, and lived up to that expectation as they got past Moro Populars by 4 goals to 1, with Fabio producing a stunning performance also including a wide range of runs and passes, but he was affected by scarlet fever soon after that, which resulted in missing out on the ensuing games, an unfortunate 3-1 defeat at the hands of Hellas Begato and a glorious and hard-fought 2-2 draw against Massacroni.
Fabio was back on track for the all important promotion sealing game, though, the quarter final tie Dunfermline won by 5 goals to 3.
Fabio was still in the process of recovering from his illness, and was far from his best form, which showed as Berto came back from 2 goals behind to equalise before half time.
As he couldn't live up to his name at the back, and as the gaffer couldn't count on any available subs, Frassi was moved upfront, and boy did he do his job.
He went close with a fine header before the interval, and latched on to a Marletta mis-hit kick to give the Pars the lead again at 3-2.
Dunfermline ended up winning that game, the final scoreline reading 5-3, a result that had been coveted all season long.
That was to be the end of the run, though, as Alliance Utd had the better of the Fifers in the following semi-final tie, collecting a 3-2 win courtesy of a comeback from 2-1 down.
Well, Fabio might have not been at his best yet that game, but his substitution at the interval resulted key in handing the tie to the opponents, as he more than often performed duly even when injured or unfit.
A rock-solid defender, a silent (well, sometimes, yelling...) leader, a respected figure in the dressing room, and a handful of goals to his name. His partnership with Filippi proved vital en route to promotion and he's one to start from for the future.

La leadership è importantissima nel calcio. Quando un allenatore può contare su due o tre giocatori che influenzino positivamente la squadra, dotati anche di qualità nelle rispettive posizioni in campo, il lavoro diventa improvvisamente più facile.
Fabio Frassinelli è uno dei veterani del Dunfermline, uno dei pochi elementi della rosa attuale ad aver cominciato coi Pars già nella stagione 2006/2007.

Da lì in avanti, i momenti di gloria sono molti di più di quelli di crisi, e la prima vittoria stagionale arriva contro i New Reds Ponente, nella quale Fabio viene schierato addirittura in porta a causa dell'assenza di un portiere, per l'appunto.
Fabio, che per fratello ha un VERO portiere, produce una performance incredibile, che racconta di alcune parate importanti, con la squadra che si impone per 5-2.
Segna il suo primo goal stagionale nel successivo 9-2 contro l'Aston Villa Scassi, e guida la difesa nella vittoria per 5-3 nel derby contro il Never Alone Soccer.
Nel 5-1 sull'Internazionale, se ne va sulla fascia e serve un assist vincente a Buccianti.
Dopo le festività natalizie, va ancora a segno, mettendo il sigillo personale sul 9-1 agli Xeneixes, ma è il match che segue a decretarne l'imprescindibilità.
Il Dunfermline si impone per 4-1 nello scontro diretto contro gli Amici di Berto, e Fabio e Filippi riescono nell'impresa di non far segnare gli avversari, fino a quel momento ire di dio sotto porta, su azione, con il goal poi rivelatosi della bandiera che arriva su punizione di Steiner.
Fa la sua parte nel 2-2 contro il Sampierdarena, risultato che verrà poi trasformato in vittoria a tavolino, e va ancora in goal nella vittoria sul Le Café (6-5 finale), raccogliendo una palla vagante su azione d'angolo e mettendo alle spalle del portiere dal limite per il provvisorio 4-4.
Il Dunfermline vince ancora (4-2) contro il Borussia, prima che Fabio salti la partita con la Compagnia delle Indie per un infortunio al ginocchio, risultato finale 6-3 per i Pars.
Gli scozzesi si prendono poi la rivincita su Las Cuevas, vincendo 4-1 in una partita in cui Fabio si sdoppia tra due ruoli. Sul campo, è un muro impenetrabile, ma fa anche da manager part-time a causa dell'assenza dell'allenatore medesimo. A proposito di leadership...
Contribuisce ad altre due vittorie, contro i New Reds (4-2) e l'Aston Villa (9-1), ma l'incredibile striscia di 13 vittorie consecutive viene interrotta improvvisamente dal 3-3 nel derby contro i Never Alone, un match in cui una squadra nervosa riesce ad ottenere coi denti un buon punto.
Segue una facile vittoria per 9-3 sull'Internazionale, quindi una difficile imposizione per 5-4 sugli Xeneixes, prima di una bruciante sconfitta (2-6) nello scontro diretto con Berto, durante la quale Fabio collassa col resto della squadra.
Fortuna vuole che i ragazzi si riprendano in tempo per sigillare ufficialmente il passaggio ai Playoff Eccellenza la settimana seguente, quando battono in rimonta il Sampierdarena 2-1, e quando Fabio impedisce al capocannoniere finale, Andrea Ferrea, di segnare.
Il Dunfermline vince poi contro il Le Café (5-4) e conclude la stagione regolare da capolista e da difesa meno battuta, non per caso, con una vittoria per 4-3 sul campo del Borussia.
Arrivano le finali, alle quali il Dunfermline si presenta tra i favoriti, pronostico inizialmente rispettato con un bel 4-1 ai danni dei Moro Populars, partita nella quale Fabio produce un'ottima prestazione.
Purtroppo, però, arriva anche la scarlattina, e Frassi salta la sfortunatissima partita persa contro l'Hellas Begato per 3-1, oltre al glorioso e combatutto pareggio 2-2 contro i Massacroni.
Ma non salta affatto il match promozione, i quarti di finale contro Berto quando, seppur non al meglio, viene schierato.
In difesa non riesce a dare il solito contributo, ancora debilitato dalla malattia, e Berto rimonta due goal per pareggiare 2-2 nel primo tempo.
Non ci sono cambi a disposizione, il mister lo sposta in avanti, e lui prima sfiora il goal con un colpo di testa, poi si fionda con una zampata mancina su un tiro sbilenco di Marletta, siglando il provvisorio 3-2 in una partita che terminerà poi 5-3.
Fine della corsa, perché l'Alliance rimonta a sua volta nella susseguente semifinale, vincendo 3-2 e ponendo fine alla corsa dei Fifers, comunque promossi in Divisione B.
Ebbene, Fabio non sarà stato al meglio per quella partita, ma la sua sostituzione durante l'intervallo è stata forse una delle chiavi che ha consegnato il match nelle mani dell'Alliance, considerando lo standard che Fabio ha saputo offrire anche quando leggeremente infortunato o non in forma.
Un difensore solidissimo, un leader silenzioso (beh, qualche volta urlante...), una figura rispettata all'interno dello spogliatoio, e qualche goal realizzato.
La coppia Frassinelli-Filippi è stata fondamentale nella corsa promozione, e da loro si riparte per il futuro.

PLAYER REVIEW - #9 Alessio Di Noto

Dino got his Dunfermline career underway the worst possible way, as he was sent off on the day marking his debut with the Fifers, in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Las Cuevas.
After serving the ensuing two game ban, though, his team-mates, the gaffer and the supporters came to admire a talented player, one who's never lacked either commitment or quality when called upon.
He fully played his part in the first six pointer win of the season, against Never Alone Soccer, and scored his first for the club one week later against Internazionale, with a dipping effort from long range which left the keeper with little option but to pick up the ball from the back of the net.
A hat-trick against Xeneixes followed in the 9-1 win after the festivity break, and Alessio fully played his part in the 4-1 win away to Berto seven days later.
Yet another spot on performance in the 2-2 draw against Sampierdarena, then converted into a 4-0 win by AICS, closely followed by a first half appearance in the 6-5 win over Le Café.On as a sub in the 4-2 win over Borussia, he was on target again one week later against Compagnia delle Indie, netting the provisional 4-0 goal by capping a wonderful collective move and a mouthwatering delivery from Filippi, in a final scoreline reading home 3 away (Dunfermline) 6.
He sat out on the 4-1 home disposal of Las Cuevas, but was back in the fold in quite some style as The Pars overhauled New Reds by 4 goals to 2, contextually providing Marletta with one of the assists for his goals on the night.
He opened the score in the 9-1 win over Aston Villa Scassi, and was one of a few good performers in the 3-3 draw against Never Alone Soccer, as he provided two vital deliveries, the first directly from a throw in whose trajectory met Cantelli's head, the second with a brilliantly taken corner kick Bovalino was quick enough to convert with a half-volley.
A week after that, he scored another hat-trick, against Internazionale, in a 9-3 win, the first goal coming from a brilliant overhead kick from close range.
Dino missed out on the ensuing hard-fought victory against Xeneixes, but was sadly part of the team who surrendered themselves far too easily to the grasps of Amici Di Berto, also getting booked in the process, which made him sit out on one of the crucial regular season games, the 2-1 away win to Sampierdarena that sealed Dunfermline's Excellence Playoff status.
He emerged again and was up to the task the following week, Dunfermline getting past Le Café by 5 goals to 4, the first of which being the exquisite result of an exquisite assist from Dino, whose through ball was smashed past the keeper by Marco Cantelli.
Then, he missed out on the final match of the regular season, a 4-3 win away to Borussia, only to come back and perform at his best in the opening fixture of the finals.
Dino came on as a sub in the first half against Moro Populars and almost immediately scored an equaliser that paved the way for Dunfermline to eventually win 4-1.
In the unfortunate 3-1 defeat at the hands of Hellas Begato, then, he was one of the best performers in Dunfermline's fold, and that was very much the case as the Scots produced real heroics to hold Massacroni to a 2-2 draw one week later.
He got yet another caution, which forced him out of the promotion winning encounter against Amici di Berto, and came on as a sub in the semifinal against Alliance Utd, in which he scored a provisional 1-1 equaliser before Buccianti carved a one goal cushion for the Pars.
However, it wasn't to be and the Cabella bros concocted a marvel of a comeback to knock Dunfermline out.
All in all, a great season for Dino, a valuable asset on the pitch, a quality player whose services are going to be much needed next term too.

Dino comincia la sua carriera con la maglia dei Pars nel peggior modo possibile, facendosi espellere il giorno del debutto coi Fifers, nella sconfitta per 4-3 contro i Las Cuevas.
Dopo la conseguente squalifica di due giornate, comunque, i suoi compagni di squadra, l'allenatore e i tifosi possono ammirare un giocatore di talento, che non fa mai mancare il proprio impegno o la propria qualità quando richiesto.
Fa appieno la sua parte nel primo scontro diretto della stagione, la vittoria per 5-3 sui Never Alone, e segna il suo primo goal per il club la settimana successiva, nella vittoria 5-1 sull'Internazionale, suggellata da un tiro a scendere dalla lunga distanza che non lascia scampo al portiere. Tripletta nel 9-1 sugli Xeneixes dopo le festività natalizie, ed una buona prestazione nella vittoria su Berto (4-1).
Altra prestazione sopra le righe nel 2-2 contro il Sampierdarena, poi convertito in 4-0 a tavolino dall'AICS, alla quale segue un'apparizione nel primo tempo nella vittoria 6-5 contro Le Café.
Entra nel secondo tempo nel 4-2 sul Borussia, e va poi ancora a segno contro la Compagnia delle Indie, andando in rete per il provvisorio 4-0, con un tocco a porta vuota a sigillare un grande contropiede ed uno splendido assist di Filippi, risultato finale casa 3 ospiti (Dunfermline) 6.
Salta la vittoria 4-1 sul Las Cuevas, ma torna alla grande nel 4-2 sui New Reds fornendo anche un assist per uno dei goals di Marletta.
Apre poi le danze nel 9-1 sull'Aston Villa Scassi, ed è uno tra i pochi a brillare nel 3-3 coi Never Alone Soccer, fornendo altri 2 assist, il primo direttamente da rimessa laterale, con Cantelli che di testa mette dentro, il secondo con un delizioso calcio d'angolo convertito da Bovalino con un calcio in drop.
Una settimana dopo, arriva un'altra tripletta, nella vittoria 9-3 contro l'Internazionale, il primo goal con una splendida rovesciata dalla breve distanza.
Dino salta poi la soffertissima vittoria (5-4) contro gli Xeneixes, ma è tristemente parte della formazione che si arrende senza appello a Berto per 2-6, prendendo anche un giallo che gli fa saltare la più importante partita della regular season, la vittoria in trasferta per 2-1 ai danni del Sampierdarena, risultato che ufficializza l'ingresso nei Playoff Eccellenza per il Dunfermline.
In ogni caso, riemerge alla grande contro il Le Cafe, consegnando ancora un altro assist, squisito, a Cantelli per il goal che apre le danze nel 5-4 finale, prima di saltare l'ultimo match della stagione regolare, vinto per 4-3 sul Borussia.
Torna nuovamente al meglio delle proprie possibilità nella partita che apre i playoff, entra nel primo tempo e quasi subito pareggia contro i Moro Populars, spianando la strada alla rimonta che culmina nel 4-1 finale.
Nella sfortunata sconfitta per 1-3 contro l'Hellas Begato, poi, è uno dei migliori in campo per il Dunfermline, e così anche nel 2-2 contro i Massacroni, una partita in cui gli eroici Pars strappano un risultato eccellente, ma nella quale Dino viene ammonito, il che gli fa saltare il match della promozione, contro Berto ai quarti di finale.
Nella semifinale contro l'Alliance Utd, entra nella ripresa e quasi subito pareggia, prima che Buccianti porti avanti gli Scozzesi sul 2-1, ma poi lo show dei fratelli Cabella lancia lo Utd in finale.
In fin dei conti, una grande stagione per Dino, un ottimo elemento sul campo, un giocatore le cui caratteristiche serviranno eccome la prossima stagione

PLAYER REVIEW - #8 Davide Filippi

Grit, determination and pace. Those three factors are perhaps what best describe Fernandez's game, as he was rarely short of commitment to the common cause.
Fernandez joined the Pars during the unfortunate Primavera Tournament campaign last term, and slowly but constantly dug himself a place in the heart of Dunfermline's rearguard.
It is not by chance that The Pars' defence had conceded the fewest goals in the whole C Division following the conclusion of the 2007/2008 regular season.

He took part and crashed out, together with the rest of the team, in the far from satisfactory Liguria Cup campaign.
Having missed out on the initial three games of the league, Davide joined his teammates again on Matchday 4, as Dunfermline comfortably eased past Aston Villa with a 9-2 scoreline.
He had an altogether harder job on his hands when Never Alone Soccer proved strong opposition the following week, but he nonetheless thrived and strived to produce a good performance.
He then took part in the 5-1 win away to Internazionale, contextually providing Buccianti with an excellent assist for the final goal of the match.
After the festivity break, he played in the wins against Xeneixes and Amici di Berto, while he missed out on the draw the Pars played out against Sampierdarena, which was later on converted into a 4-0 win.
A talismanic figure within the side, he came back to help his side defeat Le Café by 6 goals to 5, before the first round of play reached its end and yet another victory was collected against Borussia, the final score reading 4-2.
One of his best performances of the season materialised against Compagnia delle Indie on Matchday 12 of the league, as Fernandez hit the post after a fine run and also produced a stunning delivery for Di Noto, thus capping a great collective counter-attacking move to make it 4-0 before the break.
Further victories came against Las Cuevas, New Reds and, again, Aston Villa Scassi, but that 13 victories on the trot string was interrupted by Never Alone, who managed a draw after the team returned from their trip to Scotland.
One week later, Davide scored the only goal in his Pars career so far, with a close range finish, in a 9-3 win against Internazionale, actually the goal that sealed that early-whistle win.
He then appeared as a substitute against Xeneixes, a game The Pars won 5-4 but with a far from impressing performance, just before Berto thumped the Scots with a 6-2 victory, in which Fernandez collapsed as well as the rest of the team, only to soar to new highs seven days after that far from memorable performance, as The Pars regained the summit of the table courtesy of a last gasp 2-1 win over Sampierdarena.
Filippi was actually unlucky, as he put through his own net from a corner kick to concede Samp the lead, but was absolutely spot on in commencing the move which brought a priceless equaliser by Marletta, before Cantelli sealed the win at the death.
Le Café were then defeated by 5 goals to 4.
A yellow card on the last game of the regular season, a 4-3 win away to Borussia, meant that the defender had to miss out on the opening game of the playoff stage, when Dunfermline collected a valuable 4-1 win against Moro Populars.
He returned for the ensuing game, an unfortunate 3-1 defeat at the hands of Hellas Begato, a game that'll be best remembered for the serious injury occurred to Marco Cantelli.
The week that followed catapulted the Pars directly to the quarter finals, and Fernandez was unusually paired to goalkeeper Marco Semino at the back, as shortage in personnel forced the gaffer to pitch the latter as an outfield player.
Well, Filippi produced an immaculate performance against Massacroni, with a valuable 2-2 draw, closely followed by THE game that ultimately sealed promotion the next Sunday, as Dunfermline beat Berto by 5 goals to 3 to secure promotion to Division B.
And that, too, represented a high in Fernandez's season, with a spot on performance at the back, in a game without any subs available for rotation and a partnership with fellow defender Buttitta.
Davide's been an instant hit at Dunfermline for his personal skills and attitude, and he's proven even more valuable for his on the pitch duties.

Grinta, determinazione e velocità. Questi tre fattori probabilmente riassumono al meglio il tipo di gioco di Fernandez, considerando che raramente ha fatto mancare il proprio impegno e la propria dedizione alla causa comune.
Dopo aver partecipato alla sfortunata performance del Torneo Primavera della scorsa stagione, Davide si è ritagliato, lentamente ma costantemente, un ruolo di primo piano nella retroguardia del Dunfermline.
Non è un caso, infatti, che la difesa dei Pars fosse la meno battuta dell'intera Divisione C alla fine della stagione regolare 2007/2008.

Prende parte, e viene eliminato come il resto della squadra, dalla tutt'altro che memorabile Coppa Liguria.

Dopo le prime tre giornate di campionato, il debutto stagionale arriva alla quarta, nella vittoria per 9-2 contro l'Aston Villa Scassi.
Più difficile il lavoro la settimana seguente, contro il Never Alone, ma si destreggia bene e produce un'ottima prestazione.
Segue una vittoria in trasferta (5-1) contro l'Internazionale, fornendo anche un assist a Buccianti per una segnatura nelle battute finali.
Dopo le festività, partecipa alla vittoria sugli Xeneixes per 9-1, prima di quella ben più importante, contro gli Amici di Berto (4-1).
Salta la partita contro il Sampierdarena, che termina 2-2, un risultato che viene poi trasformato in 4-0 d'ufficio a favore dei Pars.
Figura talismanica all'interno della squadra, rientra ed aiuta i compagni nella vittoria per 6-5 su Le Café, prima che il girone di andata si esaurisca con un'altra vittoria, questa volta per 4-2 contro il Borussia.
La dodicesima giornata gli vede produrre una delle migliori prestazioni stagionali, nel 6-3 sulla Compagnia delle Indie, infatti, colpisce un palo dopo una bella azione manovrata, e rifinisce un grande contropiede, servendo a Di Noto il più facile dei palloni di fronte alla porta sguarnita, per realizzare il 4-0 già prima della fine del primo tempo.
Ulteriori vittorie arrivano contro Las Cuevas, New Reds, e nuovamente contro l'Aston Villa Scassi, prima che la striscia di 13 vittorie consecutive venga interrotta dai Never Alone, che ottengono un pareggio per 3-3 al ritorno dal viaggio della squadra in Scozia.
La settimana successiva, Fernandez trova l'unico goal, fino ad adesso, con la maglia del Dunfermline, quello che sigilla la vittoria per 9-3 contro l'Internazionale, con una conclusione da distanza ravvicinata.
Entra nel secondo tempo nella soffertissima vittoria per 5-4 contro gli Xeneixes, e collassa insieme al resto della squadra quando Berto si impone per 6-2 la settimana che segue.
Ma risorge, e se risorge, quando il Dunfermline batte il Sampierdarena per 2-1 e riconquista la testa della classifica sette giorni più tardi.
Sfortunatissimo nel deviare la palla alle spalle di Semino su azione di calcio d'angolo, è invece bravissimo ad iniziare l'azione che porterà al pareggio, prima che Cantelli regoli la questione nell'ultimo minuto di recupero.
Le Café viene quindi battuto 5-4, ma un cartellino giallo all'ultima giornata di campionato nella vittoria per 4 reti a 3 contro il Borussia significa squalifica per la prima gara delle fasi finali.
Il Dunfermline, comunque, riesce ad imporsi sui Moro Populars 4-1.
Ritorna nella sconfitta per 3-1 contro l'Hellas Begato, una partita che verrà meglio ricordata per il brutto infortunio occorso a Marco Cantelli.
La settimana che segue catapulta i Pars direttamente ai quarti di finale, grazie ad un prezioso pareggio per 2-2 contro i forti Massacroni, una partita nella quale Filippi gioca in modo inusuale al fianco di Semino, impiegato in difesa dall'allenatore a causa dell'elevato numero di assenze in rosa.
Bene, in quella occasione, la performance di Filippi è immacolata, e viene seguita dalla partita che ufficializza la promozione in Divisione B, la vittoria per 5 a 3 contro Berto.
In un match senza sostituzioni disponibili, Fernandez comincia largo sulla fascia e poi si ritrova ad affiancare Buttitta in difesa, ed anche qui la prestazione è ottima.
Filippi ha colpito nel segno immediatamente con le sue doti umane, per poi rivelarsi ancora più prezioso per quelle calcistiche.

DUNFERMLINE TO PLAY TOURNAMENT

Dunfermline AFC announce that the club will partake into the 3rd edition of the "All in one night" Tournament, a competition whose peculiarity is that all games are played within the space of one night, between 11th and 12th July, in 20 minute long encounters.
The tournament will be played out at the Negrotto venue of Serra Riccò, nearby Genoa, funnily enough on the same pitch that saw The Pars triumph to promotion about a month ago.
Owing to a number of notable absentees, the roster of the team will be integrated by a handful of loanees and/or potential 2008/2009 signings.

Il Dunfermline AFC annuncia che la squadra parteciperà alla 3a edizione del torneo "Tutto in una notte", una manifestazione la cui peculiarità sta nel fatto che tutte le partite, di 20 minuti ciascuna, si disputeranno nello spazio di una notte, tra l'11 ed il 12 Luglio.
Il torneo si terrà al campo Negrotto di Serra Riccò, vicino a Genova, curiosamente lo stesso campo sul quale il Pars hanno ottenuto la promozione circa un mese fa.
A causa di un numero consistente di assenze, la squadra verrà integrata da una manciata di prestiti e/o potenziali acquisti per la stagione 2008/2009.

The 1966 midfield player's contribution to the 2007/2008 promotion winning campaign may have been restricted to just 3 league appearances, but Dunfermline have widely demonstrated that their success is both on and off the pitch, and it was very much the case with Pino, whose debut came on Matchday 4 of the league, a victorious 9-2 game against minnows Aston Villa Scassi.
During that game, he provided Buccianti with a brilliant corner-kick delivery, the Tuscan forward heading home from close range.
Following that appearance, he played for a handful of minutes against Las Cuevas and half a game against Internazionale.
Unfortunately, he had to pull out of the travelling party that took to Scotland in mid March owing to family reasons, but his presence has been thoroughly enjoyable, and indeed appreciated, by his teammates and the gaffer.
He'll have a slot in the 2008/2009 roster if he so chooses.

Potrà aver giocato anche solo 3 partite durante la stagione che ha portato alla promozione, il centrocampista classe 1966 Giuseppe Alberga. Ma il Dunfermline ha dimostrato di essere un progetto di successo dentro e fuori dal campo, ed è questo il caso di Pino, il cui debutto arriva nella vittoria per 9-2 contro l'Aston Villa Scassi alla quarta di campionato.
Una partita nella quale serve un assist da calcio d'angolo a Buccianti, che converte di testa da pochi passi.
Dopo quella partita, la stagione gli riserva qualche minuto nel successo contro i Las Cuevas e un intero tempo contro l'Internazionale.
Sfortunatamente, deve rinunciare alla spedizione in Scozia dei ragazzi per motivi familiari, ma la sua presenza è godibile ed apprezzata da tutti i compagni di squadra e dall'allenatore.
Avrà un posto in rosa nel 2008/2009, se vorrà.
