Dunfermline take on New Reds Ponente at their home ground of G.Mora on Sunday night, for a match that will surely tinkle The Pars' hearts thinking back of the time when the sides met in reverse fixtures earlier this term.
On the back of their first - and thus far only - defeat on the pitch, and having just seen their only league point written off by a correct FA decision, Dunfermline were without goalkeeper Semino, defender Filippi and midfielder Marletta ahead of a game which could well have been the last in the Fifers' history.
On the pitch problems looked even more serious as replacement goalkeeper Nozza was run over in a car accident and couldn't make the squad, whilst the club's future appeared to be slowly but inevitably ebbing away as the former sponsor (...) unilaterally withdrew from the agreement with the club to have the lads all but on their knees.
Still, Dunfermline produced a stunning performance, Frassinelli was deployed in goal, defender Andrea Sorbara made his debut, and this far his only appearance for the club, gaffer Luigi Vanin included himself in amongst the substitutes and thrusted himself onto the pitch as the other debutant, goal boy Andrea Borreani, limped off the pitch with a broken ankle.
It took a hat-trick from Cantelli and a goal from Buccianti to give The Pars their first league victory by 5 goals to 2, perhaps the most significant of all wins, as it was the first in a string of 11, still running at present.
Lots of things have changed since, and New Reds haven't quite lived up to the expectations, as they were considered to be the top team in the group and are actually languishing in 9th place, 5 points adrift of the playoff zone and miles behind Dunfermline.
So much so, that The Pars will have to keep their focus if they don't want to incur a banana-skin game, one that will be played out at a ground where the home side have never lost this season, but where they have rarely produced outstanding performances, mainly due to the all too well-known narrowness of the park.
Dunfermline will be without Cantelli, who'll be serving his one match ban following his 3rd caution of the season, whereas Perugini will be once again deployed in goal owing to the contemporary absence of influential No 1 Marco Semino.
Di Noto should make the squad instead, although it is unclear whether that means Borreani will be left out owing to FA regulations prohibiting that the pair play together owing to their FIGC status.
There are no news of any further injuries or illness preventing any of the lads from being involved, so Luigi Vanin will be able to choose from the following squad:
GK: Perugini
D: Buttitta, Filippi, Frassinelli
M: Bovalino, Borreani, Marletta, Di Noto, Alberga
F: Buccianti
