The Pars had their string of 13 wins in a row interrupted in a tense local derby against in-form Never Alone, however Cantelli scored a brace either side of a Bovalino's screamer to secure a point... and fire the lads to top spot.
It took 13 wins in a row to leave the boys second in the league, one point shy of former table toppers Amici di Berto. Then, on Sunday, Dunfermline produced their arguably worst performance of the season in the league and only managed a draw, however they found themselves in top-spot following Berto's defeat at Sampierdarena's home ground of Negrotto.
This means that Dunfermline and Amci di Berto are now level on points, the Fifers holding the smallest of edges over their rivals owing to their 4-1 away win when the two sides met back in January.
Gaffer Vanin deployed Perugini in goal, owing to the persisting knee injury to Marco Semino, whilst Frassinelli and Filippi composed the back pack as usual.
Marletta and Bovalino formed the midfield charges, and Cantelli supported Buccianti upfront. Whether the lads should've played a 3 midfielder system may be debatable, owing to the fact the Boschetto pitch is not as narrow as G.Mora, whatever the system, though, Dunfermline showed poor passing, even poorer marking and suddenly fell 2 goals behind.
Dell'Olio fired a low shot, one Perugini could only fumble into the path of Pretelli, who found the narrowest of angles to fire home and make it 1-0.
Then it was Dell'Olio himself who scored a second, as his shot seemed to be set to be stopped by Perugini, however Petrelli produced a bit of trickery to impeed Perugini's sight and the ball found the back of the net instead.
Thins got edgier and edgier for a Pars side, whose habit to pull off great comebacks didn't look to be revived on the night, even more so as Marletta couldn't handle Dell'Olio who fired a fierce volley to rattle the crossbar. Had it been 3-0, it'd all have been over.
Luck was not a factor to Dunfermline either, though, as Cantelli had a couple of good shots saved or just wide and Marletta hit the post himself with his only piece of work worthy of such a name on the night, as he volleyed from outside the box and the ball hit the right hand post.
HALF TIME: Never Alone Soccer 2, Dunfermline 0
The second half got underway and the lads were much more determined to get something out of the game, although further cautions were received by Marletta and Filippi, to add to the one for Buccianti in the first half.
Di Noto replaced Buccianti and immediately made his contribution felt, by running into space and trying to open things up a bit.
He took care of a throw-in and sent the ball in towards Cantelli's head path, and the club's top-scorer this season pulled one back to make it 2-1.
It was Di Noto, again, who found an unmarked Bovalino from a corner-kick piece, and No 11's volley was arguably his best goal of the season, levelling things up at 2-2 and giving his team-mates a bit of a momentum over the run of play.
It wasn't to be though, as Dell'Olio quickly re-established Never Alone's lead from outside the box, before Cantelli made it 3-3 with a fierce effort that left Arecco with no chance.
The Pars indeed had their own chance of winning it, as a shot from Cantelli encountered a couple of deflection and rattled the cross bar, before Buccianti tried to head home but found an Arecco's save on his way.
