SAMPIERDARENA - Analysis

SEMINO
Marco's goalkeeping has been a huge factor to the side since he joined The Pars.
Last night was no exception, as he produced a number of fine saves to salvage a point for the lads.
Couldn't do much about the goals, but his presence is as influential as tecnhically relevant.

FRASSINELLI
Once again, a fine display from The Pars' No 10. He cleared the lines, and resolved a host of potentially dangerous situations. It is not by chance that Dunfermline only conceded goals from free-kicks, as his composure and marking ability were absolutely undisputable in open-play situations.

BUTTITTA
A welcomed return to the starting lineup, Giuseppe was twice adjudged to have fouled his opponents - both times wrongly so -, only for Fornero and Ferrea to open a two goal cushion.
He never panicked, never lost his confidence, and had he been more lucky he could've put away one or two in the second half.

MARLETTA
When it comes to home games, he dismisses his fine touch game and turns into a defensive midfielder... with fine touch. He grabbed the equaliser from the spot and was denied by Bruzzone early on, from a customary free-kick. Got his first yellow of the season, yet another blunder from the ref.

DI NOTO
Not quite as influential as in other games, Dino was nevertheless a positive factor to the side.
His fine technique and passing ability were restricted by aggressive defending and poor refereeing, however he made his contribution felt in midfield.

CANTELLI
He, too, was yellow-carded for nothing. His class is of a higher level, and his finishing of the highest quality. He was unlucky not to put any away on the night, but he created the kind of openings which most certainly produce goals.

BUCCIANTI
It is unclear whether he's going to be credited with the 2-1 goal, however he certainly played his part in that goal, and in other attacking actions.
He was unlucky not to grab a winner, as his lash from outside the box hit the crossbar to deny him.

BOVALINO
He didn't start the game, but since he came on he provided his team-mates with the usual amount of good passes and runs.
Not his best game to date, but he surely helped out and finished the match playing alongside Frassi in defence and at the same time providing back-up for the midfield package.

GAFFER VANIN
His coaching ability is far well-known now. His first-half substitutions are becoming a wee bit of a trademark move and he pushed as far as he could to try and win the game, leaving Frassinelli to single-handedly manage the defence in the final few minutes of the game, being sporadically assisted by Bovalino.
A good game, even though the all-winning string of 6 matches has come to an end.

REF
We don't like discussing referees, as poor performances remain poor performances and great goals remain great goals, ref notwithstanding.
However, the last-minute sub to Ref Molè got all main decisions wrong.
He unjustly gave two free-kicks, which resulted in as many Sampierdarena goals.
He cautioned Clegg & Cante for protests they didn't actually raise and, in all fairness, the Dunfermline penalty was never going to be a penalty.
He ruined a game between two loyal and extremely equipped sides, much to all parties' dissatisfaction.
