The lads were quite euphoric after landing their sixth win on the spin, even more so as the latest of a string of scalps taken by The Pars belong to former front runners Amici di Berto.
One could have heard the boys singing and chanting triumphantly in the dressing room last night, after a performance which could easily be labelled as their best this season, perhaps staking a claim for an all times absolute best from the Genoese Fifers.
Let's look into the lads' performances and post-match comments
MARCO SEMINO
Semi's goalkeeping ability are turning out to be a massive asset to the team, and last night performance was no exception, as he produced a couple of excellent save - notably a great dive to deny Bruzzone minutes after kick-off, and a good punch to block a free-kick attempt by Steiner.
"I think we're only getting better, building up on some good class and great togetherness"
DAVIDE FILIPPI
Fernandez turned in yet another flawless performance at the back, his pace and marking ability proving once again a factor in the side's jigsaw. Unfortunately, he'll miss out on the next game through a trip to Stockholm.
"I was always calm. I never thought we wouldn't have won the game, we were the better side on the night and I think we deserved to win"
FABIO FRASSINELLI
Fabio provided the supporters and his team-mates with a late scare, as he went down after his head was hit by a powerful shot.
However, he produced a man-of-the-match performance, albeit marred by a sloppily given yellow card, on the part of the ref. He had kind words for goalkeeper Marco Semino:
"If we hadn't him, we would sit far below where we are just at the moment. We produced a great performance, we've got to keep on winning games"
ALESSIO DI NOTO
Dino started wide on the left last night, then he swapped positions with Clegg and, in both roles, he produced fine touches and passes. He was denied by the post when the scores were still level, but ultimately helped his side win the game with good ball administration
"I'd like to have the Champions League jingle in the dressing room before the games. That'd give us extra-motivation, we're doing extremely good"
ALDO MARLETTA
Clegg grabbed his first brace of the season, to bring his term tally to 5 and his all-time record for Dunfermline to 22. He scored from a stunning free-kick to make it 2-1 to then seal it at 4-1 and finish the opponents off with a run-in which was triggered by some senseless defending on the part of Amici. Early on, he'd spurned a good chance to open the score but, no doubts whatsoever, he is back.
"I'm glad with the team performance, and mine too. It was a collective effort with moments of individual brilliance from all of the players on the park. My form is improving, although I'm not at hundred per cent just yet"
MATTEO BOVALINO
Bova had to get to grips with goalscorer Steiner, he committed himself to a more defensive role and was absolutely spot on in doing so. His "prosaic", but utterly helpful performance, saw him run and tussle all game long when he was on the pitch
"I'm looking forward to every single game. We've got tonight [Sunday] and tomorrow [Monday] to enjoy this win, then we'll have to play it down, have it sunken in, and prepare for the next game. This bunch of players is turning out to be a bunch of good friends as well, we're an on and off the pitch team"
MARCO CANTELLI
Well, what more can be said about this absolutely fantastic player? He's got an injured knee but that doesn't show whatsoever. He opened the score and gave Amici's defenders a hell of a hard time by always fighting for the ball - very often winning possession, actually -, shooting, beating men. Scoring. His opening goal was a mixture of his technique, composure and shooting skills.
Marvellous.
"Well, it's a good feeling when you win games like this. We were extremely good and we want to keep this form going"
ALBERTO BUCCIANTI
Buccia scored once again and he was an influential figure on the pitch, his fine moves causing havoc in the opponents' defence.
He could be credited with merit, if not with the goal itself, for the 3-1 goal, which hinged from a fine individual move before hitting a very unlucky defender and head towards the back of the net
"This was such a great game. We thoroughly deserved to win it, we've now a bunch of competitive players, all playing at pretty much the same level. I think we're in for a further good run of results now, but we need to keep it cool, without getting carried away"
GIUSEPPE BUTTITTA
The Sicilian defender returned to action after missing out on 3 games. His contribution at the back was absolutely tangible, he helped the back-package remain calm with the scores level and enjoyed the best bit of the game in the thick of the action. His ability will surely prove an added value to the team in the next games
"Well, we had a decent performance, hopefully I can get more starts in the near future, but I'm absolutely delighted at the way we faced the game
LUIGI VANIN (Manager)
Wanyn, much to many's surprise, played Cantelli upfront, Di Noto on the left and left club's top scorer Buccianti out, at least initially.
That proved an excellent move, as Cante tired the defence with his continuous movement and front changes, before Buccia was thrust on the pitch to finish them off.
Dino was then swapped with Clegg after the break, to be withdrawn himself later on, Clegg returning to his midfield centre-slot after having proved effective on the right as well.
His rotational policy is paying dividends, he can count on a number of classy and motivated players, whom he's driving to success.
"We had an excellent game, we're a strong, finished side and we can take on just whoever at the moment. We don't have to think we've done anything, cause that'd prove a big mistake, but we certainly are on the right footpath"
