XENEIXES - DUNFERMLINE 4-5

On a night which saw The Pars produce their arguably worst performance in the league this term, Marco Cantelli stunned opponents Xeneixes with an unbelievable 5 goal tally.
Gaffer Vanin welcomed the return of goalkeeper Marco Semino, while Buttitta was handed a starting spot alongside fellow defender Frassinelli. The midfield trio was composed by Marletta, Bovalino and Cantelli, whereas Borreani started upfront.
The game immediately appeared not to be in amongst the lads' best ones, however Cantelli opened his account for the night with a brilliant shot which ended up in the top corner, to bring the Fifers in front.
The boys, though, were unconvincing on the pitch and the gaffer distinctly unimpressed off it, as another bunch of attempts didn't amount to goals either side.

HALF TIME: XENEIXES 0, DUNFERMLINE 1

Proceedings were resumed and all of the suddent it all turned doom and gloom for Dunfermline, who sloppily conceded an equaliser before a 10 yard free kick gave the host the lead.
Cantelli resumed his personal show, which had also featured hitting the woodwork in the first half, by means of the 2-2 goal, with a nice finish from just outside the box.
Just as things appeared to fall The Pars' way, madness struck and the lads found themselves 2 goals behind with only a few minutes to go. Xeneixes, in fact, netted two in quick succession, as Filippi, introduced for Buttitta, and Semino failed to clear their lines once or twice.
On the verge of the most shocking of defeats, Cantelli took it all on his shoulders and single-handedly took Dunfermline back into the game.
The 3-4 goal was triggered as Bovalino produced a fine cross and Dunfermline's No 6 found the narrowest of paths to pull one back with his left.
The best goal of the night, though, was still to come, and indeed it did as Cantelli took possession just inside the opponents' half, and struck a marvellous shot to the top left corner, a shot which gave no chance to the keeper whatsoever.
Things got more and more tense, and it was Cantelli again who settled matters with only instants to go, as he nicked the ball off the home side's defence, to find some space on his right and blast the ball low in the opposite corner.
A disappointing performace for Dunfermline as a whole, but Cantelli brilliance was of a different class and, ultimately, enough to secure a vital win on a night when fellow front-runners Amici Di Bertocould only manage a 4-4 draw at home to Compagnia delle Indie.
This means Dunfermline, for the first time in their relatively short history, are now topping the table on their own and actually hold a two-point cushion ahead of direct matches against Berto themselves and Sampierdarena.
